5 Things on Friday, Feb 23/24
Hello all and welcome once again as I share 5 awesome things with you. As usual, my goal is that you will leave the page satisfied that you've learned at least one very cool thing that might help you in your job - or that you can WOW your friends or family with!
From the recent FedGIS conference in DC. Andrew Turner and Adam Pfister share the latest in research and development at Esri on the transformative impact of Generative AI. This is a must watch if you'd like an inside look of how Esri is moving ahead with AI. I've know Andrew for many years now and he has been passionate about cutting-edge technologies like this and always seems to be ahead of many others in his thinking and his work!
I have to admit, I've been a HUGE fan of speech-to-text technology, likely for 20 years now! There have been some amazing implementations of speech recognition over the years (Shazam for example is one killer app) and the first WOW app I was a huge fan of, SpinVox back in 2003-ish. So, back on focus, how would you like to have a look at the latest implementation of this cool-tech in ArcGIS survey forms. This recent article is a great primer for those of you who want to try using generative AI alongside your GIS. From the author, "Generative AI is a catch-all term for any kind of AI model that can, well, generate something. Text generators and image generators are the most mature types of generative AI, but research into generating other types of information with AI is progressing rapidly." Enjoy this one!
Finally, something for my Esri Partner colleagues (did you know there are now 3,000 Esri partner companies). These range from early-stage startups, to our very experienced Platinum partners. If you are attending the 2024 Esri Partner Conference (EPC), the Esri technical certification team invites you to attend their brand-new panel session, Esri Technical Certification and Benefits to Partners. Read this blog to learn more and be sure to add this session to your schedule.
This comes via our friends at esri Canada... Have you made your plans to attend yet? A reminder - particularly if you are stuck in a cool climate and enduring what feels like an endless winter - consider spending the whole week in Palm Springs by registering for a combo EPC & DevSummit package. You'll enjoy a couple of days of business strategy and best practices as a partner, then get your geek on getting schooled in the latest technologies and tools. Our colleagues at Esri Canada have shared a great look at what you can expect by sticking around the whole week for #EsriDevSummit2024 : (source: https://lnkd.in/grNR6uyB)
