7 Unexpected Benefits of Starting Over After ANY Age!

7 Unexpected Benefits of Starting Over After ANY Age!

“You’re overqualified.”

“Why are you really applying for this job?”

As aggravating as those two answers were, at least they got back to me. Four years ago, I had sold my interest in a thriving business and was looking for something to do.

I had a lot of money in the bank, and I had just been through a meat grinder getting my business going. A break wouldn't be so bad, right?

Well…not so fast my friend.

Even though I have a law degree, my clients have sold over a billion dollars, I have launched two international businesses that have sold millions, and I'm good at marketing…BUT, I couldn't get a job.

Employers either wouldn't get back to me or told me I was overqualified.

I was forced to do what I've been doing for the last 30 years, start a business. And, what an amazing, frustrating, exhilarating, aggravating, wonderful journey it has been…just like all the times before.

The Ticking Clock Problem

If you’ve ever felt that the clock is ticking down on your career, you're not alone. Many people grapple with the idea of starting a new career or think launching a business is only for the young, vibrant, and fresh-faced.

Here’s a reality check: it's never too late (or too early) to reshape your future and achieve extraordinary things.

At any age—be it 25, 35, 50, or beyond—you have the potential to start fresh.

I've been there. I started over in my 20s, 30s, and just a few years ago, at the age of 49. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy, but the benefits of launching a business at any stage in life are truly transformative.

What Nobody Tells You About Starting Over

Here’s what most people don’t realize: starting anew isn’t just about changing your career; it can ignite a newfound sense of passion and resilience in your life. The mechanics of starting over are consistent, regardless of the industry. If you possess the skills (or you’re willing to learn) and you have willpower, age becomes just a number.

Unpacking the Benefits

Let’s unlock the seven unexpected benefits of starting over.

  1. Renewed Passion The excitement of entering a new field can reinvigorate your life. When I sold my interest in my business, I was stepping into the unknown of a brand new industry. I experienced a wave of passion that reignited my motivation and creativity. I was also scared to death.
  2. Building Resilience Every time I started over, I faced challenges, but each one fortified my resilience. It's easy to think one setback defines you; however, each obstacle faced and overcome builds a stronger version of yourself. This strength translates beautifully into running your own venture.
  3. Expanding Your Network Each new career brings opportunities to meet new people. Shifting industries means you’ll engage with diverse individuals who can bring new insights and connections to your network. At Bemodo, my network has expanded tremendously, propelling both personal and professional growth.
  4. Learning New Skills Starting over is a fantastic way to reinvent yourself. I dove into learning about innovative technologies that were unfamiliar to me. AI is the future, and at 53, I’m a pioneer. The skills I gained don’t just help me in launching a business; they keep me at the forefront of industry trends.
  5. Redefining Your Success Launching a business gives you the freedom to decide what success looks like. No longer confined to a defined corporate ladder, you can create a vision that aligns with your values and ambitions.
  6. Harnessing Life Experience Life’s lessons equip us with invaluable knowledge. The failures and victories from prior years can guide you as you navigate the waters of entrepreneurship. They teach you what works and what doesn't, making your journey smoother.
  7. Increased Flexibility Many people assume that starting a business is synonymous with sacrificing your personal life. However, entrepreneurship actually allows you to create your own schedule and work conditions that suit your lifestyle. You'll gain autonomy over your time in a way that a traditional job rarely offers.

Takeaway: Embrace the Challenge!

So here’s the bottom line: starting over isn’t just about a career shift—it's a profound opportunity for personal growth and exploration.

I’ve experienced the challenge firsthand, especially after stepping away from a much more established business environment. As I turned 53 this week, I reflected on the journey of launching a business in a new field…it paved the way for personal reinvention at every stage of my life.

I don't care if you're 25 or 55, you can do this!

Embrace these unexpected benefits, and don’t let age hold you back from achieving your dreams.
