9 keys to successfully marketing your business on YouTube (Part 2)
YouTube Marketing
In this article, I discuss important tips to fast-track your results on the world's 2nd largest search engine, YouTube.
Note: This is part 2 of 2, to see part 1 and keys 1-4 please visit: 9 keys to successfully market your business on YouTube (Part 1).
Let's do a quick recap of the first 4 keys to success.
- Know your audience
- Set your goals
- Create a channel
- SEO (content)
And now, for keys 5-9.....
5. SEO (engagement)
Engagement measures how much and how often others interact with you and your content in social media.
When someone takes the time to like, favorite or comment on something you’ve posted, they’re actively engaging with your content.
On YouTube and other social channels, this extends your content beyond your own audience and so it's also part of Google's search algorithm.
4 areas you should always cover....
- Likes - If you’re already asking your friends to share your video in their social network, don’t forget to ask them to 'like' your video.
- Comments - YouTube is really good at figuring out which comments are spam and which ones are genuine. Don’t try to game the system.
- Shares - It’s really easy to share your video through social networks in Youtube. They have buttons for that. Youtube tracks these shares as social signals and as a User Engagement Factor.
- Embeds - The embed function is meant to take your video outside the bounds of Youtube. YouTube can track all instances of your video being embedded on other websites and it helps your SEO.
6. Make a playlist
This is good for the promotional value. It can include other people's videos as well, or just your own.
If your video does happen to be longer for some reason, this can happen in educational videos where you are teaching someone how to do something as part of your marketing ploy, consider breaking it up into segments. Later, you can combine the segments in a playlist.
Why should you do this? Because your audience will then be able to skip ahead, or back, to the parts that they want to see.
7. Choose your tags and categories wisely.
Your tags, as well as the categories you choose your videos to be in, are more important than you think. These are the things that people will use to find you. Using a less popular category might help you find a bigger audience since your competition is smaller.
Tags is what search engines will use to find your video. Don't just use random tags, either. Make sure that they actually have something to do with the video that people are watching.
With that being said, make sure that your tags cover all aspects of the video, too.
8. Collaborate
Leave comments on other's videos as much as possible. Give shout-outs, reference other YouTube videos in your content. By being a presence, more people might check you out.
Think of your YouTube channel as an extension of your brand that lives and breathes. You’ll need someone who is dedicated to tending to that page, building your audience by reaching out to fans, and managing your profile online.
Remember that YouTube is an online community, and if you’re not participating in the dialogue, then you are missing the opportunity for true engagement.
Interview someone who is an expert in the field that you are promoting. Here's an example of an interview I did with content marketing expert Jeff Bullas.
9. Build your community
Send out emails and bulletins to get people to visit your videos. Leverage the power of multi-channel marketing.
Don't spam, though. Don't just show them on You Tube-use them on your own website as well. Make your You Tube URL part of your signature whenever you send out emails to clients or even friends.
Remember to leverage other social profiles, email marketing, and offline marketing to cross-promote channels. The goal is to capture attention on multiple channels.
There are literally thousands and thousands of marketing videos out there right now. In fact, most businesses are using them these days. For that reason, your perfect marketing video must be memorable. If it's not, then people aren't going to remember your product.
I love this quote by one of YouTube's biggest success stories; Casey Neistat...
One of the best things about YouTube is you don't need a big budget, it's easy to get started and even easy to make extra income.
Creating a regular content plan, having a good video strategy and working in line with what YouTube wants will lead to success over time.
