Accountants climb some Mountains

A team from HWB Chartered Accountants will take part in the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge this year to raise money for The Murray Parish Trust. We will be climbing the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - which means driving 462 miles, walking a total of 23 miles, and ascending a total of 3064 metres... all within the space of 24 hours!

HWB have chosen the MPT as our charity of the year because we feel it is incredibly important to support an organisation that is making such a difference in our local community. Most of our staff have young children, so the charity's work is particularly close to our hearts.

The Murray Parish Trust was set up by actors Sarah Parish and James Murray after they lost their daughter Ella-Jayne to a congenital heart defect, and is dedicated to the advancement of paediatric emergency medicine. Its current challenge is to raise £2 million to build a new state of the art children’s emergency and major trauma department at University Hospital Southampton, serving nine counties and islands across the South of England.

The new unit will allow children to be treated separately from adults, in an environment designed to minimise their anxiety, and where the privacy and dignity of both young patients and their visiting families is preserved. The Murray Parish Trust are a small local charity with minimal overheads, thus maximising the funds that go to this critical project. They’ve successfully lobbied the Government for match funding for the new facility, so every pound you donate will be automatically doubled!

Why am I doing it?

I've wanted to do the Three Peaks Challenge since I was about 15, I remember my best friend and I talking about it obsessively for months! Now I finally have the opportunity to complete a life dream.

I am also particularly passionate about the charity that we are raising money for. My daughter is 18 months old now, so it hits home a little more directly when I read stories of parents with broken children or children who have sadly died from scary sounding injuries. Doing something small to help both the poorly children in the hospital and the parents' experience of the hospital caring for their little ones feels like a very worthwhile endeavour.

I'm a little nervous, as it is a big physical and mental challenge, but I'm also really looking forward to it.

Who will this benefit?

Any children in South England, including the Channel Islands, who may be transferred to Southampton for treatment, will benefit from this new department if they ever need it. All parents of these children should want to donate a few pounds, as it may be your child that needs these facilities at some point in the future.

Please donate:

We are hoping that as a team we are able to raise our target amount of £3000, personally (because I like a challenge!) I am hoping to raise £500.
