1) Making Our Roads Safer: Research Engineer Isht Dwivedi Is Leading Honda’s Vehicle Technology To Enhance Road Safety

Honda has taken an initiative to bring about meaningful change by setting a mission to reduce road fatalities by 50% before 2030, with the ultimate goal of completely eliminating them by 2050. The goal is ambitious, but, as Bill Bradley once said: "Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in".

2) Union Transport Minister set up National Road Safety Board in India

In India, five lakh accidents are reported in a year in which 1.5 lakh lives are lost and three lakh people are injured every year. And 60% of road accident deaths belong to the age group of 18-24 years. This we have not been able to control but are making efforts," he said According to the constitution of the Board, it shall be responsible for promoting road safety, innovation, and adoption of new technology and for regulating traffic and motor vehicles.

3) Bike taxis set to Make a Comeback on Delhi Roads

Bike taxis are expected to make a comeback on Delhi roads soon as the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government is all set to pass the aggregator policy in a couple of months.

The law department had cleared the aggregator policy, which would have provisions for bike taxis as well.

4) Driving road safety awareness as India reaffirms commitment to reduction in road fatalities and injuries

The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said joint efforts by all stakeholders would be necessary to reduce road accidents by 50 percent before the end of 2025.

Gadkari was speaking as part of a telethon and outreach campaign titled ‘Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan’ during the national Road Safety Week (RSW), organized by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH),

Observed from January 11 to 17, 2023, under ‘Swachhata Pakhwada,’ the Road Safety Week was aimed at driving road safety awareness for all.

5) Here's the really annoying thing about speed cameras: They work

Before the camera was installed, 85 percent of the vehicles passing by the school were clocked at up to 65 km/h, and one in 10 was traveling even faster.

When the city measured again in late December, the 85th percentile topped out at 56 km/h, and the "high-end speeders" had dropped to three percent. In just three months, overall compliance with the posted speed limit had nearly quadrupled from a dismal 18 percent to 65 percent.

6) Nearly £50 million boost for safer roads across England

Drivers, passengers, and cyclists across England will benefit from a £47.5 million injection into enhancing the safety of some of the most high-risk roads in England.

Through the third round of the Safer Roads Fund, 27 new schemes will be delivered, benefiting road users around the country by driving forward safety improvements such as:

  • Re-designing junctions
  • Improving signage and road markings

7) 35% drop in total vehicles on Delhi roads since banning overage automobiles: Economic Survey

The total number of vehicles on the roads of the national capital has declined by more than 35 percent since the city government banned plying of overage vehicles, according to the Economic Survey of Delhi, 2022-23, report.
