Ageing Well : Innovation for Super-Aged Societies Day 2

On Saturday the 28th of September Karlina Tjoa , Felicia Liew , Dawn Er , Jin Mengqi and I had the opportunity to pitch our CareBot+ idea to the attendees of the 33rd Annual Singapore Pharmacy Congress' Hackathon.

It was an enjoyable experience where the criteria was defined as;

  • Novelty
  • Scalability of technology
  • Design
  • Business plan
  • Adherence to theme
  • Presentation and teamwork

Our driven and interdisciplinary team made for a rewarding experience where we all filled the roles needed to get the job done and meet the pre-defined criteria. Our esteemed judges were;

Vivianne Shih

Hong Yee Lim

Dr Kelvin Tan (PhD)

Melvin Foo 懋清

Ganesh Neelakanta Iyer, Ph. D

There were some really interesting pitches, a few of which Karlina Tjoa and I have summarised below.

The friendly crowd waiting to hear the pitches

The 20 or so groups were chosen at random for 4 minutes of presentation and 4 minutes of detailed Q&A from the judges.

One of the first few groups had a funny re-enactment of a typical polypharmacy interaction between a white coated pharmacist and an elderly patient. Yik Hui Phang , Ray T. Yong Qiang did a good job presenting their idea and answering some questions including;

  1. Why is the service free?
  2. Who are the target audience?
  3. How would you scale your idea and comply with regulations?

Here are the summaries of a few of the other pitches, grouped by category thanks to LibertAI!

Breast Care & Oncology

Missy Bot IO (Group 13): A chatbot for elderly breast cancer patients with hearing, visual, and cognitive impairments. Subscription-based, paid by hospitals to reduce manpower costs.

Hesyra (Group 20): Led by Qihuang Xie is an AI co-pilot for oncology professionals, summarizing notes, supporting end-to-end documentation, and available in multiple languages. Collaborating with the National Cancer Centre Singapore to find product-market fit. They dealt with comparisons to Epic really well.

  • How do the team plan to onboard both private and public appointment providers?
  • How do we measure the impact of missed appointments for the patient?
  • How do we link the medication wants and needs to the appointments?

  Dr Ang Yee Gary, MBBS MPH (Non-medical qualification MBA) did well to mentor them and Kenneth Sng should take a look!

2 See You!

Caregiving & Medication Management

Simplicare (Group 18): A caregiving app for medication comparison, side impact comparison, and a chatbot for answering patient condition and medication questions.

RX Scan Save.AI: A mobile app for patients/nurses to take photos of medications and create a report. Reduces medication wastage and improves patient medication records.

Protein Not Enough (Group 3): A chat application to help elderly track their protein intake, count protein, and suggest food options.
