AI and Talent Trends

Is AI coming for your job?

It's a fear many of us have. Here at Workday, our vision is to use AI to elevate human capabilities and improve the way we work everywhere.

When developed and used responsibly, AI can transform the very nature of work itself by helping individuals to find and maintain their humanity—the feeling of being human—at work. And it’s this context for how we view how AI can help.

This means using AI to bring creativity in solving problems—having multiple ways to tackle difficult assignments and options in how to perform your work. Feeling human at work with AI is about being given authority and maintaining autonomy in how the job gets done, and being motivated and encouraged to find better ways to get it completed. And finally, we know that feeling human at work means not being afraid to lean on new technologies for help.

In this edition of #TomorrowsWDAY, we’re breaking down the top AI and talent trends you need to know. How do you envision AI shaping the future of work and talent development in your industry? Comment below, and subscribe to stay up-to-date on the latest AI insights and innovation.

How AI is Transforming Talent Management

Huan Ho, our VP of Engineering, leads teams that develop our talent suite of products. He and his teams are constantly researching AI innovations and how it can help augment and support the future of the workforce.

“We love using our own products,” Huan shares. He emphasized the importance of the team being end users in creating the products our customers use. “Cultivating a vibrant culture is not the responsibility of just one person or a select group of leaders. It’s the responsibility of everyone.”

Responsible AI in Talent Management

Our research on DEI and AI revealed an ongoing commitment among business leaders to leverage AI in promoting workplace diversity. The intelligent deployment of AI promises not only to enhance performance but also to identify and mitigate biases, fostering a more inclusive and equitable work environment. At the same time, it’s critical to implement AI in a responsible way. Our study on AI IQ found that 93% of business leaders believe humans should be involved in AI decision-making.

Discussions by policy and technology experts—like our own Chandler Morse and Josh Lannin—in Congress emphasize the importance of AI in reshaping work with a focus on skills and responsible innovation. Such dialogue underscores the necessity of developing AI in a way that prioritizes ethical considerations, workforce inclusivity, and skill development. Cross Industry Impact

The transformative power of AI extends beyond the tech world, affecting entire industries globally. According to IDC research, AI’s capabilities are redefining industry standards and expectations, with significant implications for how talent is identified, nurtured, and managed across various sectors.

Financial and business services are facing a projected 10.7 million worker shortfall by 2030—the largest shortfall of any industry, according to Korn Ferry's “Global Talent Crunch” report. Explore how AI can help industry leaders bolster a growing skills gap.

Agree

Workday thank you for sharing this! AI as a tool to amplify productivity and ensure logistical tasks are optimized is incredibly beneficial. It should not be viewed as a replacement for any human interaction - people, situations, emotions, etc. are too unique and nuanced to forego a human-to-human interaction when thinking of employee communication and engagement.

I love the information provided on the KPI’s, hiring & bench mark data. Being able to focus on internal talent based on the company and departmental needs is always great focus, on top of a positive moral boost for other employees seeking internal growth. I’ve seen a need on Internal talent growth in past organizations & I have been part of internal talent growth as well. There are many employees that have the skills the organization needs, have grown within the company, understand the process and are ready for new opportunities. I am glad Workday has these great functions and capabilities for organizations to use. I agree to you saying that Retention is the New Recrutting 💚Thanks for this great information.

There is no doubt that the era will come when AI will help us do our jobs. On the other hand, it is important that humans do not fall into the trap of getting the right answer, in order not to rely too much on AI and not be dominated by it. I think what humans can do is trial and error. This trial and error creates innovation. That's why I think it's important to continue learning with humility and agility, and we need a culture of high psychological safety that tolerates failure.
