Ajay vs Vijay : Growth mindset vs Fixed Mindset

Ajay vs Vijay : Growth mindset vs Fixed Mindset

A room buzzing with mixed feelings, energy, and the uncomfortable aroma of the unknown wafting through the air, with 39 educators in our training centre. It was another insightful session on Growth Mindset led by my fantastic colleague, Nirav Patel. Curious about how a shift in mindset can revolutionize teaching?

My Takeaway from the Workshop

Nirav kicked things off by asking everyone to write their names and designations on chits. Like a good assistant, I collected all of them. Then came the twist: Nirav asked us to leave the chits outside the door, ensuring everyone was on the same level.

Next, Nirav asked us to write down our beliefs. I’ve always been clear in my thoughts, but putting them on paper made me realize what truly matters in life. Here’s what I wrote:

  • There should be laughter and happiness around me.
  • I’m rich but don’t mind more.
  • No tolerance for nonsense.
  • Ignore mean people.
  • Stop talking...talk less, and listen more.
  • Silence doesn’t solve everything, but it gives time for better solutions.
  • Fight for your beliefs.
  • Don’t follow patterns you don’t like—it’s okay to be different.

The Good, the Bad, and the Students

Nirav then asked everyone to write about two good and two bad students. This exercise made us aware of how we give critical feedback. It’s important to choose the right words and be mindful while talking to students, treating them as adults.

Mindset Summation and Habit Formation

We moved on to Mindset Summation, a journey from feelings to a philosophical outlook, shaping attitudes and core values. This was followed by a session on Habit Formation, where we learned how small, consistent changes can lead to significant personal growth.

Growth Mindset vs. Fixed Mindset

Nirav beautifully explained this using two Hindi words: Ajay (अजय) meaning invincible and Vijay (विजय) meaning victory. He emphasized that one cannot achieve victory because of someone else’s defeat, but if you keep improving and working on yourself, no one can defeat you. The key is being content and happy with your efforts.

Shoutout to Nirav Patel

A big shoutout to Nirav, our Contentstack Virar Toastmasters Club’s president—the very first in our region! His straightforward approach and critical questions sometimes make people uncomfortable, but it’s essential in today’s world to challenge our comfort zones and grow.
