The Aloha Friday Newsletter
Happy happy Aloha Friday!
I hope everyone is bearing through this intense heatwave. Here on the island, we have been having intense electrical storms and power outages. Hoping everyone stays safe and remember to drink lots of water!
In some more exciting news, the Bloom Women’s Coaching is open to applications for the Fall program.
For those of you who haven’t heard about my women’s group coaching program, Bloom is an intensive group coaching program for women who are leaders in their own right but are ready to grow to the next level - ditching work-life balance for work-life harmony.
Bloom is all about devoting more time to joy, without sacrificing productivity and value. (You can check out our trailer for the program here.)
If this sounds like something up your alley, you can sign up on my website here. I only take 10 women per Bloom group so that the groups feel intimate and each member receives the attention they deserve as they build and work towards their goals. But don’t worry! Everyone who signs up gets put on a waitlist for future Bloom sessions.
I look forward to seeing you Bloom~
Dear Aunty Dana Mahina...
…I was extremely burnt out. I took some time off and am about to reenter the life I put on pause. How do I regain all that energy I lost without hustling so hard that I burn out again?
The cycle of burnout is a vicious one. And, as most of us know, since most of us have burned out before, trying to go back into our daily routine and life in a healthier way often seems daunting and it’s easier to just get right back on the hamster wheel until we burn out again.
So, how do we break the cycle of burnout?
Slow Down to Speed Up
It’s time to flip the script.
When we start to recover from burnout, especially when that means going back to work after a vacation or reentering the workforce after a longer absence, there is this feeling that you need to hit the ground sprinting, to make up for all the time that you took off.
Fight that urge! It is a one-way ticket right back to burnout.
When you feel the urge to speed up take a moment to breathe and slow down. Make sure you have a solid foundation (including feeling fully rested!) before ramping up and taking off.
And to be clear, I don’t mean, get one night of good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and then take off at breakneck speed. I mean slow down and build a sustainable plan to get to where you want to go. And then, start to ramp up at a speed that makes sense to you.
Set SMARTER Goals
When building that foundation and sustainable plan, one of the most important aspects will be setting goals. But not just any goals, SMARTER goals!
Most of you have heard of SMART goal setting, this is just my little twist on the concept.

When setting goals, most of us have the tendency to be overambitious and too vague. Basically, setting ourselves up for failure.
SMARTER goals help us set ourselves up for success.
SMARTER goals stand for:
I added the final two steps because life happens. And it’s so important to always re-examine our goals, see if they are still relevant, and if the SMART plan we created for it is still applicable.
And if it isn’t, adjust the goals and steps as necessary. And do it again!
Set Boundaries
This step is probably the hardest when it comes to making sure we don’t end up burning out again.
Setting and keeping boundaries.
Setting boundaries is already a difficult ask for many of us. There are so many factors we have to consider when setting out boundaries. Our individual core values, our deal breakers, and what’s realistic for our lives are all factors that we have to take into account. And once we’ve done all that, life will push against those boundaries.
But we have to hold firm! Those boundaries give us the space we need to do the things that matter to us. The things that recharge us. The things that further our goals. And the things that give us joy.
Hold to the boundaries that matter to you. And by doing so, keep your plate from becoming a platter.
