Analyzing the pattern of market capital of the Global Top Ten Companies over past few years
In the past few days, I have seen a lot of analysis on top global companies but most of the analysis is around their current market capital. I thought it may be a good idea to check out the market capital performance of all the top 10 companies over the past 4 years.
Note: 2018 data is only upto Q3.
When I looked at the market capital of all the top companies, some very interesting facts came out.
Key four Highlights:
- Apple Inc. is the only company to have hit Trillion Dollar market cap in 2018 and will be joined by Amazon.com before the end of 2018.
- Apple Inc., Alphabet Inc. Microsoft and Amazon.com have a strong growth trajectory.
- Facebook, Tencent and Alibaba Group were not in Top 10 till 2017 and were new entrants in 2017.
- ExxonMobil, GE and Wells Fargo couldn't make to the Top 10 group n 2017.
"Dumb Prediction: Amazon.com will become the second trillion dollar company before the end of 2018"
After understanding the pattern around each company, I thought of analyzing the trend that is hidden within each year.
The year comparison clearly shows how the top 10 companies have had a significant growth pattern since 2017.
Most of the top 10 companies have crossed the 500 Billion Dollar mark by 2017. Infact, average market cap for the top 10 companies shifted by 150 Billion between 2016 and 2017.
The entry of Facebook, Alibaba.com and Tencent to the Top Ten Club has definitely made a huge difference.
Once I finished analysis of all the companies for past four years, I thought of having closer look at 2017 and the market cap till 2018 Q3. I found it quiet fascinating and I am sure you will too:
Look, how top four companies emerge in the quadrant of its own. While Apple.Inc stands by itself, Amazon.com, Microsoft and Alphabet.inc have formed its own cluster. The remaining six companies are living in their own little island and far behind.
Must say some great leadership by Tim Cook, Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai and Jack MO.
