Around the Bases 8/3
Welcome back! August is here, and I'm seeing a lot going on as everyone in the sports world is ramping up their production teams with the fall season just a few weeks away. I appreciate your time here- the community keeps growing and I am hearing from more and more of you each week.
"I'm here to help" is a phrase I turn quite a bit. I feel there are so many others who are out there willing to do the same. I have been running into more than a few folks who might not be so sure. I can vouch, there are plenty of people out there, you just have to find them. I was in the "why would anyone want to help me?" vortex more than a few times, and had to break that paradigm. Reaching out helped me land where I am now, and will help me get through whatever lies ahead. The connection game is critical to getting you in front of the right people. Having any pathway in to a place is better than not, so be as relentless as possible seeking out the people who may be able to help. The more you reach out, the higher your chances are to succeed.
I came across this recently and got a huge boost out of it. Mel Robbins is an amazing (I'm selling her short) follow here, and she has a ton of helpful advice backed up by some science that I find really interesting. This is just one of several videos she has out there that are also worth checking out.
This week's Something to Read is actually another weekly post from a colleague of mine, Keri Willis . Her " Monday Musings" offer quite a bit of insight and are worth your time. I saw Keri grow from a young PA at ESPN into an unreal team leader as we both went on our paths there. Awesome stuff.
This week's Something to Listen To is a podcast for the hoop fans out there. "48 Minutes" is on the Bleav Network. One of my most important mentors when I was at ESPN, Bruce Bernstein , is one of the regular contributors. I owe a lot of my management style to Bruce, he was so great to me when we worked together back in the day. Ross Geiger and Michael Freer are also on board, and it has been great to see this grow in recent months.
Here are the Top 10 jobs I saw this week. We have a TON going on at CBS Sports Digital, with our soccer crew looking to fill a bunch of positions as the get ready for their season which is fast approaching. There are 3 of the roles posted below, but there are many more. DM me here for more info on those spots or anything else you see below. I can get you directly to the person at CBS for the soccer positions, and may have a way in for the non-CBS roles.

I have a solid connection here for more info on this role.
I have a great connection at DraftKings. Jeff York was a great teammate in my earlier days and they are doing some things there- hit him up here or reach out to me and I can get you connected!
A neat week for me as this is the 30th anniversary of my journey into the world of sports media. The industry has changed so much since then, it's impossible to really explain (What is a tape? How do I log this game?) I have spent a majority of those 30 trying to help others (just like so many helped me along the way, so thanks to all of you!) get better at what they do. Somehow, that has led me to this newsletter and client experiences I could never have imagined. I took a shot, and ended up getting so much out of it and I know there is more to come. If you are looking for a way into or through this industry, we should talk. I have the industry knowledge, experience and energy level to help you start your process. I can aid you in all of the necessary steps to get things going. Resumes, LinkedIn profiles, portfolio reel reviews, you name it. I have worked closely with industry leading producers and talent to provide you with the keys to your next kingdom. Feel free to check out my website below and see how we can help each other- the consultation call is free.
That'll do it for another week. Big shout outs to those starting something new this week (you know who you are)! Thanks for all of you who subscribe and have told your connections about the goings on here. The push for 900 subscribers is on, and we are on our way! Have a great weekend!

1yThanks for the mention TR! You’re someone I have always admired and I certainly appreciate your kind words. But the truth of the matter is that you have a management style that is all your own and most unique! We really enjoy doing 48 Minutes and with Ross Geiger and Michael Freer we have a great team!

1yI'll second T-Roche on 48 minutes. And add that no one can research basketball like Michael Freer and he is a part of the show, too. Definitely worth a listen for any fan of the hardwood
