The attraction of our global mobility
At #GTOffshore, we encourage our people to gain lived experience of working across our global business to understand the nuances of other jurisdictions whilst encouraging their professional and personal growth. Being part of Grant Thornton Offshore affords the opportunity to work on the most complex cross-border asset recovery problems with the added benefit of global mobility. At the end of February, Assistant Manager Jessica Winter left our Insolvency and Asset Recovery team Grant Thornton UK LLP for a year secondment in our Grant Thornton Singapore office.
Jamie Taylor , Manager within the same team will also be starting a secondment in Grant Thornton New Zealand Ltd this month.
Grant Thornton has supported numerous colleagues with their secondments offering a new adventure and global work perspective in many exciting locations such as the US, BVI, New Zealand, and Singapore – and we truly see the value in the influence upon skill sets such opportunities provide to our people, especially when they return home!
We asked both Jessica and Jamie to take some time out of their busy packing schedule to give us some insight into what drove them to pursue a secondment opportunity and what they hope to gain from the experience. Jessica will be taking on a new role as a manager in the Restructuring and Insolvency team in Singapore. She will be working on restructuring work, global enforcement and asset tracing, both with and without statutory insolvency aspects working alongside Singapore Partner and Head of the Restructuring and Insolvency practice Paresh Jotangia .
Jessica commented:
“I believe that limited growth happens within your comfort zone, so I am stepping outside of it and jumping on a plane! I am excited to build connections between the UK and Singapore firm, learn about Singapore's Restructuring and Insolvency practice, and grow my global network. The chance to experience the city's bustling business environment, diverse cultures, and incredible food also really appealed! In addition, I am looking forward to connecting with my family in Singapore, as my Grandma was Singaporean. I am ready to be open-minded, welcome new opportunities, and be prepared to adapt to a new lifestyle and surroundings.”

Jamie will be joining the New Zealand Financial Advisory Team in their Auckland office and will be on secondment for two years. The motivation behind this decision was to expand his experience into different areas of restructuring and insolvency, in a new market, with a different culture, and to live abroad. Jamie will be working on a range of statutory insolvency cases and restructuring advisory work, as well as embracing and adapting to the new 9-day working fortnight which was launched on 1 January 2024.
Jamie commented:
“I am excited to take on this new adventure and chapter in my career. I hope to gain a breadth of experience in the insolvency and restructuring space, learning from my colleagues and clients in New Zealand and building a network that can collaborate with the UK in the future. I will be working with the Financial Advisory Services Partner Stephen Keen who moved back to New Zealand a few years ago after 5 years spent in the insolvency and asset recovery team in London. The world doesn’t seem quite so big with such familiar connections! I will also be working with Jay Shaw , Head of Forensic and Thomas Smith, CPA, CBV , a secondee from our Toronto office. I will miss my friends, family, and some English food, but I won't be missing that morning battle to get onto the Northern line!”
