Beware of Burnout this will impact your Longevity..

In a world that rewards the hustle culture and productivity, we often confuse extreme exhaustion with lack of effort or laziness. But it could be burnout: a state of prolonged physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion. And we're not talking about simple tiredness that a good night's sleep can solve, but something more complex.

How do you know if what you're experiencing is burnout? Some signs include feeling constantly exhausted, having a cynical attitude towards your work or daily life, and noticing a decrease in your performance. It's that feeling of being "burned out," where not even the strongest coffee or holiday seem to make a difference.

Burnout sneaks up on you and is often mistaken for everyday stress, but its effects can be profoundly debilitating. It is caused not only by working too much or work-related pressure, but also by other factors such as lack of control over work, lack of recognition, and the imbalance between effort and reward, among other factors.

Stretching is essential for health and longevity

Recognizing burnout is the first step to combating it. It's not about working harder or "putting in more effort," but about understanding the roots of the problem and addressing it with effective tools like the ones we discuss below:

You can use these tips to organize your routine in a way that allows you to perform at your highest potential without "burning out."

👉 Break down the work to overcome lack of control

If you feel overwhelmed by a lack of control over your tasks, a good strategy is to divide the work into smaller, manageable parts. Focus on what you can control and start there.

👉 Apply the 80-20 rule if you feel the rewards are insufficient.

Identify the 20% of tasks that provide 80% of the results and prioritize them. This principle allows you to maximize efficiency; by focusing your energy on what generates the most significant impact, you will make progress with less effort.

👉 Choose tasks that are challenging enough and aligned with your strengths

Working on tasks that don't align with your interests or skills can quickly drain your energy. To overcome burnout, choose tasks that challenge you enough in areas that naturally interest you or are in line with your strengths. In fact, it is considered much easier to enter states of high productivity and flow when we work 4% above our current skill level. This not only improves your performance but also makes the process more satisfying and less likely to cause burnout.

👉 Practice active recovery in the face of work overload

If you can't reduce the amount of work (like most of us, we simply can't afford to), the trick is to apply certain practices that allow you to recover without the need for an extended period without activity. Some of the physical and biohacking changes that shield your body from burnout to prevent it from happening are as follows:

 Methods of active recovery

In active recovery, the goal is not to relax but to generate hormetic stress. Hormesis is defined as a dose-response phenomenon characterized by low-dose stimulation and high-dose inhibition.

The beneficial effects of mild stress on aging and longevity have been studied for many years. In other words, force a very high-stress response in the body but for a short period of time. Hormetic stress is a moderate and temporary stimulus that can strengthen the body and improve its ability to handle future challenges.

Wim Hof Method: A combination of deep breathing and controlled exposure to cold. It is a powerful technique for strengthening your stress response. L:ike with any practice, start gradually with a few seconds working up to say 1 minute. Remember the old adage "less is more!"

Sauna: Just like cold, the heat of the sauna provokes mild stress that helps your body recover and strengthen.

Breathing exercises: Simple but effective and accessible techniques to calm the mind and improve your stress response that are a great complement to any daily routine.

Physical exercise and HIIT: High-intensity interval exercises simulate the benefits of hormetic stress, improving your resistance to stress.

Fascia care: The fascial system connects muscles and other tissues. Paying attention to the fascia through deep massages and specific stretches can help reduce inflammation, improve posture and nerve function, thus contributing to better stress management and burnout prevention.

Hi, I’m a mechanical engineer that 5 years ago shifted into the fitness space. Longevity is a field I’m fascinated in. At 57 I believe age is just a number and I train and maintain habits to reduce my annual decline to the max.

My team and I coach primarily men in the 40s, 50s and 60s on how to live healthy, sleep great and reduce stress by creating great habits.

I’m a 4:10’ marathon runner who loves to lift weights. I follow the hybrid lifestyle; who said that running and lifting can’t go well together? My coaching is based on my “Six Pillars of Fitness & Longevity”. Mentors such as Andrew Huberman and Peter Attia are world-class scientists who I follow to ensure that my advice and coaching is science-based.

Well explained Hec Salgado👏🏻. You have mentioned the important point of applying 80/20 rule. It rule is that a minority of inputs typically lead to a majority of outputs. Identifying and focusing on these high-impact inputs can lead to more efficient and effective outcomes.🤝
