Beyond Boundaries.
Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller."– Ibn Battuta
Dear Investors & Friends,
Welcome to this week’s SundayReads.
The other day, my friend Yogin said something that struck a chord. “I envy you,” he said. “Maze kar rahi hai... kitna travel karti hain!” His words echoed a sentiment I’ve heard before, but this time, I pushed back. “What’s stopping you from doing the same?” I asked. Yogin, who’s way ahead in his career and loves road trips, paused and admitted, “Even I can.”
That’s the truth—we all can. Travel isn’t a privilege for a few; it’s a choice to prioritize life experiences, and those experiences are worth every effort.
As someone who’s spent years traveling the globe, both for work and personal enrichment, I know that travel isn’t just an escape—it’s a powerful gateway to personal and professional growth. While I’ve built a career in the structured world of finance, it’s the lessons I’ve gained from travel that have truly shaped me. Through these experiences, I’ve discovered a different kind of wealth—one measured by memories, growth, and a broadened perspective.
As I write this from a hotel in the UK, let me share: travel isn’t only about destinations; it’s about who you become along the way. It challenges you to adapt, think on your feet, and become more resilient—skills that translate seamlessly into professional life. In the office, handling pressure, thinking creatively, and managing complex projects are essential skills, all honed through travel. Navigating unknown cities or communicating across language barriers teaches you to be adaptable, resourceful, and confident.
Personally, travel fosters empathy and a broader worldview. When you immerse yourself in another culture, you gain new perspectives, which in turn enrich your relationships, whether with family, friends, or colleagues.
Here are a few places I’ve been, and the invaluable lessons they’ve taught me:
- Kyoto, Japan – Visiting the serene temples of Kyoto taught me to love my own country more. The Japanese commitment to cleanliness resonated with me, reinforcing the importance of initiatives like Prime Minister Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a project close to my heart. There’s a pride in keeping one’s country clean, a lesson Japan instills powerfully.
- New Zealand – Known for its stunning landscapes and adventure sports, New Zealand showed me the importance of embracing the spirit of adventure. Skydiving and pushing my comfort limits taught me that life is about taking risks—a spirit essential for both personal and professional growth.
- Istanbul, Turkey – Istanbul, a city where East meets West, showed me the beauty of diversity. The vibrant blend of cultures and history reminded me of the value of open-mindedness—whether in life or work, where diverse perspectives foster innovation and richer collaborations.
Each journey offers unique lessons, but the common thread is that travel makes you richer—not in money, but in wisdom, resilience, and perspective. If you’re waiting for the “right time” to travel, let me tell you, the time is now. Life won’t pause for perfect moments, and waiting may mean missing out on life’s greatest lessons. Even a weekend road trip can refresh your perspective and recharge your mind.
Life is happening now, so don’t wait to live it. The world is out there, waiting to teach you.
I’m already excited for a solo trip soon—Bhutan, maybe?
Where will your next adventure take you?
Until the next week, Ciao.
Warm Regards
Kavita Bothra
