Beyond my role in the classroom, I actively engage with the community during my free time and holidays. This involvement includes advocating for and running campaigns focused on quality education, assisting fellow teachers in establishing themselves as influential global educators, and participating in educational & leadership conferences/sessions.
Following the closure of schools for the June 2024 holiday, I continued my engagement in other activities as usual.
Therefore, from late June to mid-July, I was on a journey of community transformation, participating in several significant events:
- On June 22-23, I attended the TELTA International Conference at IAA -
Institute of Accountancy Arusha
venues in Arusha; many thanks to IAA for their support. As the regional coordinator for TELTA (Tanzania English Language Teachers' Association) in Mara region, I was invited as a presenter and hence shared opportunities that teachers can take advantage of, including guidance on applying for the Global Teacher Prize competition.
- On June 24, as an alumna of
YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa
, I had the honor of attending parliamentary sessions in Dodoma, where I engaged with honorable MPs, including Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Dotto Biteko. Subsequently, as a panelist, I spoke at the American-affiliated space in Dodoma on "Innovate to Elevate: Leveraging Technology for Entrepreneurial Success," sharing insights from my educational experiences, particularly how I teach students about technology and its post-graduation applications under Tanzania's new curriculum.
- From July 2-5, I was invited to speak at the Pan-African Conference on Girls & Women's Education in Africa of the
African Union International Center for Girls & Women's Education in Africa
, held at the African Union HQ in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In the Nelson Mandela Plenary Hall, as one of the Edu-Innovators, I addressed my advocacy work promoting quality education in Tanzania, focusing on campaigns for children's education and advocating against FGM and child marriage so that they can attend school effectively.
- In mid-July, I was involved in the Pan-African Debate & Speech Program in Mwanza, Tanzania, co-hosted by Musabe schools. As one of the coordinators, I facilitated the second phase of the program, which hosted the Bozeman High School Debate & Speech Hawkers team from Montana, USA. Together, we focused on enhancing students' debate skills through research and critical thinking. We aim to secure funding to expand this program to other regions across Tanzania.
These experiences have enriched my commitment to education and community development, reinforcing my dedication to improving educational outcomes and opportunities for students and educators as well.
I believe that anyone can do extra or other activities without affecting their normal full-time jobs, it’s just a matter of scheduling well the plans and commitment.
