Beyond the Corner Office: She Pivots Inspires New Paths to Success

I started She Pivots out of a need to hear stories of inspiration from women who had gone through something difficult, but came out of it on the other side with a new mindset. Like so many high-achieving women I had defined success using traditional markers, a career, a promotion, the corner office, awards, etc. When I left that more traditional trajectory I realized that those ideas and markers of success are not what truly define our success. So I started She Pivots to showcase the stories of women who have carved their own ideas of success in spite of it all.

The genesis of this show was spurred by the women in my life who had inspiring stories that I thought deserved to be told. And without their stories and their encouragement to go out on a limb and build She Pivots I wouldn't be where I am today. When I first thought of the idea of She Pivots I originally had the age-old thought, “someone else should do this.” It wasn’t until my dear friend Michele Jawando pushed me by saying I should be the one to do it.

I knew every guest in the first season personally, which is how I knew about their stories. It showed a huge trust in me that they were letting me make public the hardest thing they had ever gone through. The thing that forced their pivot. These conversations, with the inspiring women around me motivated me to start She Pivots and as a result created a community and a new way for women to think about their careers and their lives.

I recently hosted our launch party for season 3 of She Pivots and I remember pausing and looking around the room at all of my closest friends and people who inspire me and being so overcome. The room was abuzz with people genuinely enjoying each other, having meaningful conversation, and building bridges. It was a true pinch me moment where I got to see the impact of this show and my work in action.

There was always a part of me that knew how amazing this community could become - I mean hell I wanted to give awards to all of these women. Doing this work by building a space and a platform to share women’s stories has been incredibly fulfilling.

- Emily Tisch Sussman, She Pivots

What defines success? Traditional metrics tell us it is wealth, status and power.

Consider it with a more unconventional approach by focusing more on meaningful measures of fulfillment. It includes pursuing passions and engaging in activities that bring you joy and meaning. Success is the positive impact you have on others and the world at large by leaving a lasting legacy that extends beyond oneself. It’s the ability to bounce back from setbacks, learn from failures and grow stronger in the process.

This pivot in mindset empowers individuals to break free from societal expectations and forge their own paths to fulfillment guided by visions of a meaningful life.

While high-performing women undoubtedly achieve remarkable success and make significant contributions, there are certain challenges they may encounter along the way. These include burnout, stress, struggle with work-life balance and neglect of personal well-being. Emily recognized that the traditional stereotypes that mark success isn’t what truly defines success so she set out to make a difference by sharing inspiring stories of other women.

Inspiring stories serve as catalysts for personal growth and transformation. When we witness the courage and resilience of the storyteller, we are inspired to emulate their virtues in our own lives. They inspire us to become the best version of ourselves.

Emily’s vision is to share inspiring stories that spark personal growth and transformation. They foster a sense of connection and empathy, bridging gaps between individuals separated by time and distance. As we immerse ourselves in the journeys of others we find common ground in our shared struggles, triumphs and aspirations. This sense of connection strengthens bonds that unite us.
