Build trust, gain trust or earn trust?

Trust is like a hidden superpower in our lives. It is the base of all our relationships.

Trust is that strong belief we have in things we don't know much about (yet).

Which misconceptions about trust do you think you have?

  1. Build trust or earn trust?

We often talk about 'building trust,' making it sound like we're constructing a building, we are in control of it. Yet think of trust more like a special currency, as said by Rachel Botsman: “money is the currency of transaction, trust is the currency of interactions”.

You don't build it; you earn it by working hard and making fair exchanges.

2. You just do good things and people will trust you?

People are different when it comes to taking risks. Some like big adventures, and some prefer to play it safe. Even if you do the same good things, some might trust you quickly, while others take their time to see.

It’s ok though when they don’t trust you yet.

3. It's 'I trust you' or 'I don't trust you.' ?

No, it’s not just like that!

It's more like 'I trust you for this specific thing.'

For instance, if a great salesperson offers to help with accounting.

Can you trust him/her? It doesn’t mean you don’t trust that person, you don’t trust them to do that specific task as they have no expertise & experience doing it before.

A great share Ngan Tran. I have found that there are two types of people regarding trust. The ones who trust immediately after the first conversation, and the ones who believe in "trust needs to be earned" I make that decision the first time I meet someone and 99.999% of the time I trust the person, as I have no reason not to trust the person.
