Burn Away Complexity

Burn Away Complexity

Complication in business elevates your status in others' eyes, but should it?

We have subtly weaved complication-tests into the fabric of our conversations, especially for entrepreneurs.

Questions like...

"How many team members do you have?"

"How many clients do you have?"

"How many locations do you have?"

These are really asking, "how complex is your business?"

Creating complication in business adds risk, energy-drain, and kills mental-capacity, unnecessarily.

I lived the complexity-addicted approach to entrepreneurship, for years.

Where did it get me?

Status as a badass?

More money?

More accolades?

Sure.

But, does complication have to be part of achieving all that?

The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Complexity in business being a requirement for success is a fallacy that has somehow become status quo.

However, when you stop subscribing to the complication-expected approach to being an entrepreneur, it will transform your business.

Whenever I am asked, "so, what is next for you?", I have to take a breath as it is another one of those complication-tests.

I know the answer about to leave my lips is not what the asker is hoping to hear.

"Honestly, I'm not building anything new this year. I'm just continuing to burn away the complexity."

It gets some shocked reactions as it is unexpected based on my previous history as a serial entrepreneur.

My old complication-creating tendencies have been traded in for freedom-seeking.

I want freedom in all dimensions of my life - especially in my business.

I have witnessed what complication has caused in my clients before we start our work together (exactly what I experienced) - destruction of relationships, unnecessarily long hours, and health-destroying stress.

Clients come to me seeking permission to burn down the complexity.

They want to start enjoying their life without compromising building a badass company.

They want a company that fulfills them - allowing them to only do the work they love, with clients they love, while continuously scaling up their impact and income, while scaling down their working hours.

Their answers to those complication-test questions transform to these:

"How many team members do you have" - a very part-time virtual assistant.

"How many clients do you have" - I work with maximum 6 clients per quarter and in a group format.

"How many locations do you have" - none, I work 100% online and from anywhere I feel like being.

They learn to build everything they need to create the impact they want without the previous complication they thought they needed to create it.

I have simplified my work down to 5 client-facing hours per week and it's glorious - my clients are aiming for the same.

In conversations with other entrepreneurs, romantic dates, and fellow travelers, I am often asked with a slightly perplexed tone how I was able to craft this freedom for myself and also for my clients.

The answer is simple.

I chose it.

I chose it everyday and every moment - burning away unnecessary complexity bit by bit until I had the most effective, efficient, and intentional version of my business.

I choose it every day still.

You can choose it too - it really is that simple.
