BURNING PASSION vs BURNOUT
If you are passionate about your career or business, but feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, you may be experiencing burnout.
Burnout does not always mean that you have lost your enthusiasm for what you do; it simply means that you are working harder rather than smarter.
In fact, most high-achieving professionals are prone to burnout.
Four years ago, around this time of year, I learned one of the hardest lessons in my life.
As I remember this incident, I knew this was a story that needed to be told as there is a relationship between having a burning passion for your career and burnout.
You do not always need to hate your job or hate what you're doing to experience burnout.
In my case, I absolutely love my career path, yet I was not practicing fully what I preach.
One morning as I woke up, I was paralyzed by intense pain and unable to straighten my legs.
All I could do was sob from the agony coursing through my body.
I had been ignoring the pain in my lower back for months now and that day it came to a head.
I had pain in my lower back that had been growing over the course of months, but I had ignored it due to working 7 days a week and sometimes more than 12 hours a day - always sitting at my dining room table.
That morning was particularly ironic: as I was scheduled to give a presentation about the latest science behind well-being. Despite the immense pain and difficulty walking, somehow, I managed to get ready and slowly make my way there with my husband’s assistance.
It turned out that I was suffering from sciatica, circulation issues, and a complete collapse of my adrenal glands.
It has been a hard lesson and a long road to recovery.
If you do not have work-life balance, eventually it will catch up with you.
So I'm here to share lessons learned from my own experience with the hope that you don't find yourself in the same situation.
If you happen to already be experiencing burnout, I share helpful tips to get your burnout under control for good!
So make sure you read to the end!
Lesson #1 –
It is essential that you make time for self-care both during working hours and outside of them.
Taking short breaks throughout the day or taking a few hours off during the weekend can help you recharge and come back feeling reenergized and ready to tackle new challenges.
This also gives you a chance to step back from your work, find inspiration, and come up with creative solutions for any problems that may be holding you back from achieving success in business.
I encourage all my clients to have reminders to take three deep breaths once every 60 minutes.
This keeps fight and flight at bay and helps you to achieve your goals for the day without experiencing fatigue early in the day.
Lesson #2–

Setting realistic goals is an important part of staying motivated in your career or business.
It helps when you break down tasks into more manageable pieces so that you don’t feel overwhelmed by all the different things on your plate.
Make sure that these goals are achievable.
The key here is to be honest with yourself about what you can do in a given time frame, and adjust the goals accordingly if needed.
This keeps you working from your higher-order brain, resulting in you being more productive and efficient with your time.

We all have the same amount of time in the day and we are all prone to fatigue.
I have learned to prep internally and externally by setting up my day in a way to keep hacking my central nervous system to achieve balance and keep my brain refreshed.
Every day is not the same but overall, these are my tips:
✅ I set up my morning so I can win – creating an environment in which my brain can function at its best.
✅I have black coffee as I intermittent fast during the work week and I organize my lunches in advance.
✅I also select my outfits for the week in advance.
✅Mastering my schedule and calendar to stay focused is critical: I use a Mindful Planner I created and designed that keeps me on track with priorities for the day to advance on my projects.
✅I have specific days for calls and coaching with clients, podcasts, and or media interviews.
✅I have days set up for content creation and writing.
✅I don’t schedule back-to-back meetings; I make sure to schedule time to regroup in between.
✅I avoid multitasking as it depletes my brain of chemicals it will need to concentrate throughout the day.
✅ I turn off the email alert system on my computer so I am not distracted every time a new email hits my inbox. And, I schedule time throughout the day when I check emails.
✅I keep a portion of my day free of appointments, e-mail, and other distractions so that I can have time to think and plan for the next day.
✅Winding down time– I include time for movement meditation, stretching, and internal cultivation practices for healing and well-being.
