Business Owner Hacks – How Much is Your Time Worth?

Business Owner Hacks – How Much is Your Time Worth?

I started my business over 15 years ago now. In that time I’ve landed some incredible clients, been nominated for a couple of awards, and been asked to speak at high profile events across the country. I’m also a dedicated mother to 2 kids and have overcome numerous challenges both personal and professional.

Why am I telling you this? Because it’s safe to say I’ve had to learn a thing or two about how best to use my time in order to get where I am today.

During the course of the next few weeks I’m going to be releasing a series of short posts outlining tips and tricks for business owners who want to be more productive, more often.

But before we get into that, I want to talk about you. Or more specifically, how much you’re worth. And no, I’m not talking liquid assets or real estate investments. Instead, I want to know how much you value your own time.

And if you don’t already have a rough answer to the question, it’s time you figured one out.

Why? Because it’s vital you understand what your time is worth before you even think about how to best make the most of it.

I’ve work with literally hundreds of small business owners in my career, and so, so many of them seem to be trying to take the word ‘solopreneur’ (if that even is a word…) to a new level.

I’m talking accountants who spend days - even weeks - trying to build themselves a website, or business gurus who stare their eyes square trying to design a professional logo for their fledgling firm.

It can be easy to hide behind these kinds of tasks when you’re just starting out. They’re typically very time-consuming and give you a sense of accomplishment when they’re done.

The problem is, what you’re actually accomplishing isn’t running your business. It isn’t making sales, building your network, or promoting the skills and services that you built the company for in the first place.

There is only one person who can run your business - you.

But there are thousands of people who can build you a fancy website, and thousands more who can design you an awesome logo. Resources like fiverr and upwork make it easier than ever before to access to talented individuals in just about every profession you can think of.

Yes, you’ll have to pay for their services, but in doing so, you free up your own time to get out there and grow your business.

And that should be worth something, right?
