I was Ready to Quit My Job & Start My Own Business, but Nobody was Buying from Me

A few years ago, I found myself in a tough spot. Stuck in a traffic jam, tears rolling down my face, I realized that despite my hard work, I had no savings and my life felt like it was going nowhere.

I’d been working in a corporate job for ten years and knew I needed a change.

I decided to start my own business, but no matter how hard I tried, NO ONE WAS BUYING MY SERVICES.

I had put so much effort into my services, but people just weren’t interested.

It was frustrating, and I felt like I was failing.

Then, I discovered three key reasons why people weren’t buying from me.

These reasons transformed my approach and helped me turn my business around.

Today, I would love to share them with you so you can start seeing results, too.

1. They Don’t Trust You

The first reason is they don’t know or trust you. If people don’t believe in you, they won’t buy from you, no matter how great your service is.

When I first launched my business, I built a WordPress website, crafted detailed service pages, and sent out countless emails.

Despite these efforts, I wasn’t getting any clients.

I realized that people didn’t trust me yet.

I had no success stories, no big names backing me.

I knew I needed to build trust. So, I decided to start small.

I found one person who was willing to let me work for them for free, in exchange for a testimonial if they were happy with the results.

I worked tirelessly on their project, ensuring I delivered above and beyond their expectations.

This client was thrilled and gave me a glowing review.

This testimonial was my first step in building trust with potential clients.

One of my first clients was Jen, a small education business owner in Ontario, Canada.

She was struggling to keep her education business afloat and was skeptical about working with me.

But after a few months of implementing my strategies, her revenue increased by 40%.

She was thrilled and shared her story with others, which helped me gain new clients.

Helpful tips: Build Trust by Being Credible

  • Get Testimonials: Ask satisfied clients for feedback and showcase their testimonials prominently on your website and social media.
  • Show What You’ve Done: Share specific examples of your work, including before-and-after scenarios or detailed case studies.
  • Be Open: Talk about your journey, including the challenges you’ve faced, to show your authenticity and dedication.

  • Building trust takes time, so keep collecting and sharing these success stories.

2. They Don’t Trust Your Product

Even if they trust you, they might not trust that your product or service can help them. They might think, “This won’t work for me.”

At the start, I only had a few success stories from a specific type of client—small businesses in the education industry.

This narrow focus made it hard to convince people from other industries that my services could help them, too.

I decided to expand my reach.

I approached clients from different service fields, like education, healthcare, and coaching, offering them a discounted rate in exchange for detailed case studies.

I worked with a fitnes trainer to create a new website and marketing plan, which increased their customer intake by 50% in just two months.

I helped a healthcare consultant streamline their booking system, which doubled their appointment bookings in six weeks.

All of them gave me good testimonials.

I use these testi to get even more clients.

Helpful tips: Show That Your Product Works

  • Show Different Success Stories: Share diverse case studies from various industries to show the broad applicability of your services.
  • Prove It Works: Use real-life examples and quantifiable results, such as increased sales, customer engagement, or time savings.
  • Let Them Try It: Offer a free trial or a small sample of your service so potential clients can see its effectiveness firsthand.

3. They Don’t Trust Themselves

Sometimes, the problem isn’t you or your product—it’s their own self-doubt. They might think, “I can’t do this,” even if your service is perfect for them.

During one of my product launches, I noticed that potential clients were hesitant to commit because they doubted their own ability to succeed.

So, I decided to run a free mini-course on “Building a Winning Marketing Website (landing page).”

The course included simple, actionable steps that participants could implement immediately.

  • One participant, a freelance writer, used the course to create a professional portfolio site, which led to her securing two new clients within a month.
  • Another participant, a small business owner in Malaysia, followed the steps and saw a 30% increase in leads generated within 2 weeks.

These quick wins helped participants gain confidence in their abilities and showed them that they could succeed with my full service.

As a result, many of them signed up for my comprehensive online coaching service.

Helpful tips: Help People Believe in Themselves

  • Give Easy Wins: Provide actionable tips or steps that deliver quick, positive results, boosting their confidence.
  • Share Relatable Stories: Show how others like them have succeeded using your services, focusing on small, achievable milestones.
  • Encourage Interaction: Allow potential clients to engage with your material, such as through a free mini-course or a simple project, to build their confidence.

To wrap it up,

Remember, the key is to build trust—in you, your product, and their own abilities.

I started with no business knowledge, no savings, and felt completely lost. But by learning and adapting, I turned things around.

Now, I help clients all over the world.

You can do it too.
