Can a local Austin band guerrilla market their way into playing ACL Fest?
Central Coast is a local Austin band. They're playing and writing a lot of their own music and play some of the biggest venues in town to packed houses. The four members all want to tour with the band and do it full time and realized playing a festival like Austin City Limits Festival could be that event that changes everything.
So they're getting creative.
They now have a first run of a thousand MigoTags—simple stainless tags around the size of a silver dollar.
Each tag says, "I saw Central Coast before they made it big at ACL Fest."
And, every tag also has an individual number
Now when they play Austin gigs, they can announce, "If you put something in the tip jar, please take a genuine Central Coast MigoTag. Every tag has a number, and when we get booked to play ACL Fest, we're going to use that number to give you a backstage pass."
Gutsy. When a band has real intent and figures out interesting paths to reach that goal, it's bound to happen.
It's going to be an ongoing experiment. I'll let you know how they do. They're actually a pretty amazing band by the way.
