🛳️ Canada’s western ports are on lockdown: What to know
Canada’s western ports are on lockdown after the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) locked out over 700 members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 514 on Nov. 4, following a walkout. Despite meetings with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service on Nov. 9, no progress was made, and no additional meetings were scheduled. Negotiations have been ongoing for nearly two years after their contract expired on March 31, 2023. The BCMEA recently offered a 19.2% salary increase over four years and a $21,000 signing bonus.
