🚚 Rail Congestion, E-Fuels & Supply Chain Sync – This Week’s Key Updates!

What's happening in the Supply Chain world this week?

🛳️ How shippers can navigate West Coast rail congestion

West Coast rail operations are facing challenges due to increased container volumes at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, driven by peak season, labor disputes on the East and Gulf Coasts, and anticipated tariff increases. As a result, rail cargo is experiencing longer dwell times. Experts recommend that shippers prepare for potential congestion as traffic continues to rise. More here!

🚚 Business Coalition Opens Bidding for E-Fuel Shipping Services

A coalition of cargo shippers, the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliances (ZEMBA), is accepting bids from ocean carriers for a contract to transport products using e-fuels, aiming for a 90% reduction in carbon emissions over three to five years. Founded by Amazon, Patagonia, and Tchibo, ZEMBA plans to move 1.4 million twenty-foot containers across the Pacific starting in 2027 with near-zero emissions ships. President and CEO Ingrid Irigoyen emphasized the importance of economies of scale for a clean energy transition. This is ZEMBA's second contract tender; the first was awarded to Hapag-Lloyd in April 2024 for transporting goods using waste-based biomethane. The coalition aims for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in its maritime fleets by 2050. More here!
