CAR MAINTENANCE TIPS

CAR MAINTENANCE TIPS

Here are some tips on maintaining your car. It is so irritating to have your car break down. Sometimes you would be in a rush or taking a trip and then you realise that your car is not working.

1.         Monitor battery water levels

Your battery water level is a simple thing to look at but very vital.  As you use your car, the battery water runs out due to electronic activity. The salts or acid remains but the water goes. To keep your battery in peak condition you have to refill the battery water. If you hate checking weekly then just get a maintenance-free battery next time.

2.         Check the oil

It is important to regularly check your engine oil level to ensure there are no leaks. If ever you travel without oil your engine will wear down and you will face massive engine replacement costs thus it’s in your best interest to check your oil. If the level is good but the oil colour is very dark then it’s time to change it.

3.         Service your car

Sometimes it is expensive to service your car but doing so will help you in the end. You need to change your brakes, plugs, oil and oil filter, your air filter, and your transmission fluid. Transmission chains are also important to change for high-mileage cars but make sure you are buying high-quality belts and not cheap knock-offs as these will cost you more in the short run.

4.         Change your tires every five years

Every 5 years you need to change all your four tires even if they still look okay. Buy your tyres from reputable suppliers. A high-speed burst can be disastrous so it is always wise to avoid it by maintaining good tires. Do not take off rapidly and hard-break as this wears tires faster.

5.         Park your car in the shade

Avoid parking your car in direct sunlight as harsh ultraviolet rays can extensively damage your car paint and wreak havoc on your car tires and dashboard.

6.         Wash and polish your car with the correct cleaners

Make sure to always check the type of detergent that you use to clean your car. Do not use soap or harsh washing powder, as these will wreck your car’s paintwork, use plain water or a car cleaner. Always polish your car at least once a month to protect the coating.
