Celebrating International Women's Day: Honouring Progress and Empowering Change
As we approach International Women's Day, it's essential to reflect on the strides we've made in advancing gender equality and to recognize the work that still lies ahead. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the achievements of women worldwide, as well as an opportunity to collaborate for continued progress.
International Women's Day is not only a celebration of the achievements and contributions of women in various fields but also a call to action for gender parity. It's a time to acknowledge the resilience, strength, and diversity of women across cultures and backgrounds. Without women taking their essential place in society – everyone suffers as we see in many geographies worldwide. When a society is dominated by one gender it does not bring benefits for its citizens.
Over the years, we've witnessed remarkable progress in breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes. Women have shattered glass ceilings, pioneered innovations, and driven social change in every aspect of society. From boardrooms to classrooms, from laboratories to legislative chambers, women are making their mark and reshaping the world we live in. I am proud to be a woman – and I take my responsibility as a Leader seriously in furthering gender equality.
However, despite the significant strides we've made, gender equality remains an elusive goal in many parts of the world. Women continue to face systemic barriers, discrimination, and unequal opportunities. The journey towards gender equality requires collective effort, unwavering commitment, and meaningful action from individuals, organizations, and governments alike. As a British woman living and working in Japan, my experiences in the past year have been insightful and thought-provoking. Japanese society has historically embraced traditional gender roles, however I see, and experience this changing, I am proud to be part of this change.
As we celebrate International Women's Day, let's commit to building a more inclusive and equitable world for all. Let's amplify the voices of women, support their ambitions, and create environments where they can thrive and succeed. Let's challenge stereotypes, dismantle barriers, and champion diversity in all its forms. I reflect on the journey to womanhood for my daughter, and her experiences and frustrations – I want to listen and do better.

This International Women's Day, let's not only celebrate the achievements of women but also renew our commitment to gender equality and empowerment. Together, let's pave the way for a future where every woman and girl has the opportunity to fulfil her potential and contribute to a better world.
I want to also thank the many champions of women’s empowerment, both male and female for continuing to make space at the table and amplifying my voice and those of the women around me. Thank you. I am tagging some of the amazing women in my life who inspire me everyday.
Let's celebrate the strength, resilience, and power of women today and every day. Happy International Women's Day!
