Celebrating Progress on YouTube. Details Matter.

Celebrating Progress on YouTube. Details Matter.

Big Deal!

You may not have said this out loud, and even if you did - I could not hear you, but you may have thought it. I get it. Big Whoop! 257 subscribers, 80 of which have been in the last 28 days. You see nothing to make a celebration over - but please bear with me. This is a big deal - FOR ME!

I was playing with TV before YouTube existed. Because YouTube is free and every joker can be there - no, really - every joker is there - I discounted the value of YouTube. I have another channel, and it is about a decade old. That channel has 673 subscribers and a smorgasbord of content. The adage, "Location, Location, Location," was key for me. Having my videos on free YouTube with pranksters as my neighbors felt like choosing between shopping at KMart versus Louis Vuitton. I decided the Lois Vuitton.

Fast Forward to 2022, and my business coach shared his YouTube explosion, and maybe it was a 'monkey see, monkey do' adventure - I decided I would take another look at YouTube. Because I believe in taking strategic shortcuts, I signed up for a @Derral Eves YouTube challenge. I chose Derral because he was a mature YouTuber, not one of these attention-seeking pranksters.

Transparently, I did not implement everything I learned in that experience because it took time to marinate in my head, dislodging years of beliefs around the value of YouTube. However, I did implement one takeaway, which is why I am able to celebrate this small win today. During the live challenge, I paid for the chance to have Derral answer a question. He said (and I paraphrase) if your channel is about X and Y - everything after X needs to go away. Start a new channel or clean up the existing content to one clear niche.

I started the PSI TV YouTube channel. My Virtual Assistant began to relocate the YouTube version of my TV interview shows to the new YouTube account. I did not focus on it because I am full-time at school and running PSI TV part-time.

Then it came time to think about what my doctoral research would be about. My studies are in strategic leadership, and I plan to research influential reach. I have a Trademark application with the USPTO for the word REACHology(TM) because I intend to contribute to the space of influential reach. It would be cool to have PSI TV results as part of the case study.

I commit to providing more than just a TV platform to those I serve. PSI TV is learning how to leverage influential reach for PSI TV and for those we have the privilege to serve.

PSI TV is a TV platform, first and foremost. That is our lane, but we traveled this road because I wanted an influential reach for my message. TV is continuously evolving, and YouTube has surpassed TV in many ways. YouTube is like a charcuterie platter, yet according to YouTube, only 9% of US businesses have a presence there. PSI TV is among that 9%, a competitive advantage in the scheme of things.

What changed in the last 28 days for us? PSI TV realized that our TV guests were on media tours, hopping on many podcasts, and stopping in with us along that journey. Why? Our guests are working to build their reach, putting themselves in front of the audiences of these platforms. Guests of PSI TV are made to feel like a star as we deliver their content to our TV audience. In addition to TV, we syndicate our guest interviews to 13 platforms. We decided to take it up a notch. We decided to build the PSI TV presence on YouTube for you. Our most recent interview* with L. Todd Kelly was posted to YouTube on 3/8/23 and three days later has 1672 views.

I did not care about YouTube, but I do care about my guests. Because I care about my guests, I care about YouTube. We are building the PSI TV YouTube account so our TV guests get what they want - influential reach.

We are therefore excited to see that our efforts in the last month are paying off. I may get distracted from time to time as demands from school dictates. When that pressure is off, YouTube is our next priority. Giving our guests influential reach is our BIG WHY that makes this effort worthwhile. We appreciate every one of our guests. We have heard you. We are responding and helping to leverage more influential reach for you.

Until next time. Ciao.

* Some interviews seem more recent, but older interviews were recently relocated to the PSI TV YouTube channel.

Our subscriber count is now 4360, which pretty much doubled in a few months. It is easier to grow a social media platform by focusing on that intention. If you remove the attention, expect follower attrition as well.
