This Change in Perspective Can Make the Difference Between Stress and Success in Business.
17 years ago, I launched my own business- Core Performance. I distinctly remember one overarching feeling in the initial stages.
Can you guess what it was?
Stress.
I know- it's ironic.
Here I was, helping others deal with their stress, anxiety and pressure.
But that shaky start was duly overcome in no time with one simple, effective strategy.
Before that, let me talk about the backdrop of it.
New businesses are like babies. You cannot help but fuss over them.
I was no different.
My driving force was my passion to help others. Help people take back control of their lives. Not give in to the stress and negative emotions.
The dedication was there. The resolve to make a meaningful difference- stronger than ever.
But my focus inadvertently latched itself onto the outcome of my efforts.
After all, I was delving into a space that no one had embarked upon, with my unique strategies.
Sure, people were talking about stress and the TRADITIONAL ways of handling it but very few were actually showing HOW to reduce it from the inside out and how to harness its energy, for LASTING results.
I was plagued by the ‘What ifs?’
What if my business is not successful?
Or people don't embrace my work?
Or I find no takers?
The first few years of my business had it all - the good, bad and the ugly.
Like any new venture, poor months brought along more uninvited guests such as frustration & doubt.
You know what they say about ‘where attention goes, energy flows.’

You put your attention on negativity, energy flows right there. Same with positivity.
That is when it struck me. I am putting all my attention in the wrong area.
Making stress, doubt, and frustration my focus, I am fueling them even further.
Step one was changing my perspective.
A renewed thought process to utilize the power of stress and shift my energy towards all that was going right in my business.
Voila!
A simple thought, but powerful enough to change you.
What happened thereafter is that I started concentrating on:
-Day to day operations rather than the future
-Numbers coming in, which were more or less on target
-Successful results with my clients as opposed to that one odd complaining person
I even have a term for my numbers-
I call it FOCUS on the ‘Data, not Drama’.
Stress is inevitable. But what you do with stress is completely in your hands.
This perspective can always empower you.
For most of us, this change in perspective can be the only distance between stress and success.
