Cheap Leadership Development has the highest price - paid for by your Future!

Leadership Development along with People Development is often seen as a 'necessary un-necessity'. Too often those in charge of the budget too often view it as in-the-way of achieving their goals and targets. Seeing it as a threat they cut the budgets often repeatedly. This shortsighted behavior has a price attached to it which often they don't care about.

Why?

Because the price to be paid will be paid by the FUTURE. And given the usual CEO turnover of 18 to 48 months, they know they will no longer be there when the Future comes to collect the price for their short-comings and 'short-sightedness'.

Leadership Development programs are often chosen based on what fits in the budget or what is currently in fashion and popular.

Nothing wrong with that?

Well in order to be ahead of the pack (your competition) you cannot stay within the pack when it comes to developing your leaders. In order to be ahead of the pack, you gotta be ahead of what the budget allows and ahead of what is popular.

CAUTION!

It may take courage to wander beyond the popular currents and toward a more cutting edge approach, but that is why you are THE LEADER. And you can't be the leader without the courage to venture where no one has ventured before. Such is the nature of leadership on the cutting edge.

In order to choose well on the cutting edge, you will need to rely on your intuition and your common sense, two of the more important skills all successful leaders have.

And that is how the cookie crumbles.

I know Paul Polman, Richard Branson, Jack Welch, and AutoNation's Mike Jackson would agree.
