What's New: Well... perhaps not new. We have reported on jammers and car thefts before. It has been a while, though. And the availability of sophisticated jamming and spoofing devices has certainly increased.  

 

Why It's Important: Deliberate interference with GPS/GNSS is illegal in most places. And it is linked to all kinds of nefarious activities.

 

What Else to Know: 

  • Few nations have the ability to quickly detect and locate the source of disruptions to GPS and GNSS.
  • Many nations need to update their laws and regulations to ensure this kind of activity can be sufficiently sanctioned.

Thieves block signals from vehicles’ tracking devices, making them harder to recover

A wave of luxury vehicle thefts on Britain’s streets is being fueled by Chinese companies selling cheap jamming devices, experts have warned.

The jammers, which can block GPS, mobile phone and radio signals, range from cheaper, low-powered devices covering a couple of metres to more powerful ones capable of blocking signals within a distance of 100 metres or more.

This allows car thieves to steal vehicles and then car thieves to steal vehicles and then block signals from any tracking devices, making it much harder to discover their whereabouts once they have been taken.

Not new at all ! Ask British people … by the way who invented the GPS jammer ? A student of the MIT ! As he scared about what he developped, he put it in open source libraries … so who is guilty ?

This topic is hilarious, sure Britain as it pure and innocent as it can be, there is no such things as car theft before the invention of gps jammer, esp by the Chinese
