Today the EU approved a significant law to end sales of new CO2-emitting cars in 2035. This had been delayed for weeks due to opposition in Germany, but the law has now been pushed through after Germany won an exemption for cars running on e-fuels. The EU law will require all new cars sold to have zero CO2 emissions from 2035, and 55% lower CO2 emissions from 2030, versus 2021 levels. The targets are designed to drive the rapid decarbonisation of new car fleets in Europe. However the law has been met with criticism from a number of parties (Reuters).
The automotive industry has more robots working in its factories than any other industry, with around 1 million robots in operation, according to the International Federation of Robotics. Korea has the highest proportion of robots, followed by Germany and the USA (IFR).
The ICCT (International Council on Clean Transportation) have stated that 13 million 'highly polluting' diesel vehicles sold between 2009 to 2019 still remain on the roads in the EU, and have criticised governments for failing to introduce tougher testing methods for these vehicles (The Guardian).
