COLLABORATION
Why is ‘collaboration’ so important?
Believe it or not, we don’t have all the answers and if you’re humble enough to get other people’s help, views and advice and see what other people are doing it will help us get a better result ourselves, ‘no one is an island’. It will give you a wider knowledge pool to help decide what to do yourself.
Reviewing different diverse perspectives brings views from different experiences and backgrounds. It can enhance your own knowledge and learning, provide different insights and will allow for your own growth.
It will help you make better decisions based on a ‘collective intelligence’, it’s not just about good ideals but looking at the outcomes that others have had by making a particular choice. It can increase motivation and teamwork being part of something bigger. It can help you and your team be more flexible and adaptable, allowing everyone to be more open to change.
It can also help in developing stronger relationships, better communication and accountability, and you can gain support from the most unlikely places. Let’s be honest ‘Life’ is just easier when you collaborate and it’s not as insular or lonely.
Collaborating within a team typically delivers a better approach and solution, it develops so many additional positives for each team member and for the team as a whole.
But collaborating with other people outside your organization is often harder, but still essential. You often find people who are further along in the journey than yourself, who have already tried elements that you are looking at or thinking of trying and already have data and an outcome that they are willing to share. This can be invaluable in deciding which path or direction to take yourself and can save you both time and money in the process.
Wisdom comes from collaborating with other people and building our own knowledge base and you can have a lot of fun learning from other people who are on the same or a similar journey. Many groups, associations, and memberships all share a common interest and typically the amassed knowledge from all of the members is freely shared.
What do they say, ‘we are stronger together’.
