Collierville Public Utilities Recognized at Tennessee Engineering Excellence Awards

The Town's Public Utilities Department has been honored with two prestigious awards at the 2024 ACEC Tennessee Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, held in Nashville on November 6th. This annual event, hosted by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC Tennessee), recognizes exceptional achievements in engineering innovation and excellence.

Collierville’s award-winning projects include the Sewer Pump Station Rehabilitation Assessment Project, executed in collaboration with LDA Engineering , and the Water/Wastewater Planning Project led by Cannon & Cannon, Inc. | Engineers • Surveyors • Consultants . Both projects reflect the department's commitment to providing high-quality, reliable services to meet the town's evolving utility needs.

Representing Collierville at the awards gala were Public Utilities Director John Fox (pictured center), Water Distribution/Wastewater Collection Manager Dustin Jones (left), and Utilities Operations Assistant Donna McAlexander (right). Their presence highlighted the dedication of Collierville’s utilities team to enhancing the town’s infrastructure for the benefit of all residents.

The Sewer Pump Station Rehabilitation Assessment Project, completed by LDA Engineering, assessed 23 sewer pump stations of various ages, capacities, and conditions. Using advanced technology, the project team evaluated each station on multiple parameters and integrated the results with the Town’s GIS system through a customized web application. This assessment identified rehabilitation recommendations to enhance system performance, increase accessibility to parts, and mitigate risks. By utilizing grant funding, the Town demonstrated fiscal responsibility in maintaining its critical infrastructure.

The Water/Wastewater Planning Project, performed by CCI, included an in-depth capacity management and maintenance audit, a water system evaluation, and updates to Collierville’s water hydraulic model. Over their 18-year partnership with the Town, CCI has provided expert management of Collierville’s water infrastructure. Most recently, CCI’s work led to the creation of a wastewater hydraulic model and the development of a capacity review process to assess the impact of new developments on existing utilities. CCI’s owner-focused approach has ensured timely, cost-effective solutions to support Collierville’s growing water and sewer needs.

ACEC Tennessee's annual awards competition celebrates engineering firms whose projects embody innovation, complexity, achievement, and value. A distinguished panel of judges, known for their extensive technical expertise, evaluated the submissions, selecting top projects for this honor. This year’s awards showcase the engineering profession’s outstanding contributions to building sustainable and resilient communities.
