Common Errors Establishing Corporate Values

I like to review Bellrock’s core value statements this time of year. While Jim Collins explains that core values should last forever, my experience is that in small business, they can shift. Not too much, mind you, but every time a new leader is added or removed, the team changes, and the behaviours can change too. Ideally, we are hiring for values and the change is subtle. But a review of these values and our adherence to them helps both with reinforcement and course correction.

There’s no rule that your business should have core values statements, but if you think they’d be helpful, here are some pitfalls to avoid when developing them.
