Commute woes | Vertex's $5 billion buy | Best Places to Work!

Boston's get-to-work problem

Bosses not only want workers back in the office — they want them happy when they get there. In Boston, there’s no bigger obstacle to employee happiness than the commute.

The MBTA’s woes are manifest. There are breakdowns, slow zones, and shuttle buses galore. Trains run less often than they did pre-Covid.

Driving offers little respite. Rush-hour traffic on I-90 and I-93 is as bad as it was in 2019, according to an analysis by research firm INRIX for the Business Journal.

These transportation failures hurt the return to office, which in turn hurts downtown Boston’s economic health.
