Companies' christmas parties : futile or real stake ?

For many years, French companies and more specifically their works council are used to organizing events to celebrate the end of the year. Are those events determining or unnecessary for the company’s life ? Should we continue to organize them ?

Events and performance are closely linked !

All companies have the objective of ensuring their sustainability since their lifespan depends of it. They are constantly seeking the best possible results to perform at all levels : financial, social, societal and organizational. In order to achieve their objectives, companies use various strategies. Among them, the event strategy is not insignificant and should be considered a little more carefully.

The organisation of end-of-year events such as staff evening or children christmas event (which targets employees before their children) contributes to improve the company’s performance.

Company festivities are sharing moments that allow employees to meet, get closer, listen to each other and federate. They strenghten ties between employees and reduce hierarchical barriers. As a result, exchanges and quality human relations are promoted which improves the atmosphere and the motivation. In addition, company festivities also allow to thanks collectively staff members for the work that has been done during the year, give them recognition and develop membership feeling. In general terms, all these benefits optimize employees’ wellness.

Wellness : a performance asset !

The Harvard/MIT study conducted on March 13, 2018 allows to proved that this assertion is true. Nowadays, we know that wellness makes employees 31% more productive, 55% more creative, six times less absent, two times less sick and nine times more loyal.

Therefore wellness has multiple impacts on companies, including performance, motivation and loyalty. 37% of employees who feel good at work are more motivated and 90% of them think they are more efficient. Motivation allows employees to blossom at work by adopting an effective and naturally voluntary behaviour in the achievement of their missions and company's life. In addition, it advances their personal development as well as it improves the company's economic development.

It has been observed that companies that care about wellness know 50% less resignations and other voluntary departures, than those who don't. So if a company wants to be successful and keep his talents, it really has to think about implementing actions supposed to improve wellness. The end-of-year events are a big part of it !

Works council : a performance lever !

In France, we are privileged to have a works council with a social and cultural role and not only economic. Our European neighbours aren’t as lucky as we are. Indeed, the works council allows French companies to organise events in order to improve their employees wellness and the company’s performances.

As we now know, the organisation of end-of-year event such as staff children christmas event or staff evening is a real performance stake, so we must continue to organize them and musn't neglect it !

Je pense qu'aujourd'hui de plus en plus d'entreprises ont pris conscience que le bien-être au travail constitue un élément à ne pas négliger qui leur permet de fidéliser leurs salariés. De plus, les entreprises qui prennent en compte le mieux ce côté humain attirent beaucoup plus facilement la nouvelle génération que par le passé. A l'heure des réseaux sociaux, de la 5G et du tout connecté, tout ce qui se fait de bon ou de mauvais dans une entreprise est immédiatement relayé et peut faire l'objet d'un buzz ou d'un scandale. Permettre aux salariés de s'épanouir et travailler cette image permet donc d'améliorer son attractivité, et aussi le nombre d'heures passées en entreprise ainsi que la qualité du travail rendu, car des salariés satisfaits sont plus enclins à rendre un travail de qualité. En somme, des salariés plus productifs, plus heureux, avec une meilleure rentabilité pour l'entreprise. Simple mais efficace...

Je pense sincèrement que les événements de comité d'entreprises permettent aux employés de nouer des liens entre eux d'une part, ce qui permet de se sentir mieux dans son entreprise et donc de montrer de la productivité via la reconnaissance. D'autres part cela leur permet de découvrir de nouveaux lieux ou activités et d'en faire profiter à leur famille avec qui ils ont le plaisir de passer du temps ainsi que présenter leur entourage professionnel. Je pense que ça consolide l'envie de se lever le matin et d'aller au travail avec le sourire. Merci pour cet article Elise, très intéressant !
