Congratulations on Landing Your New Role! Now What?

Congratulations on Landing Your New Role! Now What?

Securing the job is just the beginning—now it’s time to set yourself up for long-term success. Creating a Career Accountability Plan will help you make a strong impression, stay on track, and safeguard your future.

Your First 90 Days: The Importance of a 30/60/90 Plan

The first 90 days are critical for establishing yourself in a new role. A solid 30/60/90-day plan helps you focus and shows your new employer they made the right choice. Use AI to create a personalized plan with this prompt:

“I’ve landed a new role and need help creating a 30/60/90 plan to set me up for success. Based on feedback from the interview process, I want to address (insert 3 pain points, areas for improvement, or examples of impact). Here’s the job description for context (paste your new job description here). What specific actions should I take in the first 30/60/90 days to be successful?”

Building Your Career Accountability Plan

A career accountability plan is essential whether you’re starting a new job or excelling in your current role. Tracking key milestones and accomplishments keeps you prepared for future opportunities and lets you assess whether your role is meeting your expectations.

This plan acts as a tool to ensure your employer follows through on promises, allowing you to regularly evaluate your fit within the role. A well-maintained accountability plan is your roadmap to ongoing success and job satisfaction.

Career Accountability Blueprint

  1. Quarterly Check-ins: Set a 15-minute quarterly reminder to review your progress. Keep a Google Doc with sections for the benchmarks below.
  2. Track Key Areas: Professional Development: Record new skills, certifications, and training.
  3. Technology Skills: Note any new tools or technologies mastered.
  4. Accomplishments: Document specific achievements for future use.
  5. Major Projects: Track progress and outcomes of significant projects.
  6. Metrics: Include measurable results like sales numbers or project completion rates.
  7. Gut Check: Reflect on whether the role continues to align with your career goals and if promises made during hiring are being met.

Conducting Your Annual Career Audit

At the end of each year, review your Career Accountability Blueprint to assess your achievements, update your resume and LinkedIn, and reflect on your professional growth. This “annual career audit” prepares you for new opportunities and reinforces your commitment to career development.

Steps for Your Annual Audit:

  1. Skills Learned: Document key skills, training, and certifications acquired.
  2. Technology Skills: Compile a list of new technologies you’ve mastered.
  3. Accomplishments: Create a master list of major achievements.
  4. Projects: Highlight your most impactful projects.
  5. Metrics: Review and record metrics that showcase your impact.
  6. Employer Pulse Check: Evaluate your employer’s current state (e.g., layoffs, financial health) and assess alignment with your values.

Reflect on What’s Next

What has your annual audit revealed? How do you feel about your role and employer now versus when you started? Do you still feel fulfilled, and has your employer kept their promises?

Trust your instincts. If it feels like time to explore new opportunities, don’t wait. Take proactive steps for your future.
