Continuing to Find Your Passion

Continuing to Find Your Passion

This is a follow up of my previous Passion to Prosperity article.

So, we established that if you decide to move forward with your Passion, it’s not always going to be rainbows and sunshine. Well here’s the truth partner, “you’ve got talent, but you’ve got some work to do when it comes to conquering the skills arena.” You may have the natural ability and desire to discover the next cure for cancer or take full advantage of AI in the workplace, but you’re still a novice and have to build up your muscle memory so you can run with the big kids.

Everyone who has ever been successful at anything has had to work their ass off to achieve what they want in life. The truth is to get there you have a long road ahead, with many days of frustration and the constant questioning of how you'll measure up. But, here’s the thing to remember: you do measure up! You’re going to have just as many days where you perform poorly, as you will have great days when you hit all the balls out of the park. Keep hold of those great days to remind yourself of how amazing you will become. You just have to get there first.

How do you get there? Wait for it... no literally, wait for it patience and practice. Not weekly practice, or monthly practice—or not do it every once in a while after you recover from the last time you doubted yourself practice. You need to do it everyday kind of practice. You need to keep doing it until one day it stops being about something you force yourself to do everyday and turns into something that you have to do every day. Eventually you can’t stop yourself from engaging in your Passion. When that happens you’re halfway there.

Eventually, you become aware the fact that your hard work has made you part of a rare group of people in this world who are truly chasing their Passion. That's right you chase it. One day you wake up and you just get it. You understand what it means to have Passion, to be moving forward towards your Passion and that this Passion fulfills a sense of purpose in your life that has been missing for so long. It’s almost like being adopted and then finally discovering a long lost sibling that you never knew you had, except this isn’t a sibling but the best version of you that you ever could have imagined.

You will always have those days when you doubt yourself and wonder, “what if I fail at the thing that I’m best at?” Just a warning here folks, that never goes away! But, eventually, you become immune to it on most days and even when it’s really bad you just grind your way through it. No big deal.

In the long run, you start to get better and learn all the skills that you were initially missing. You had lots of ideas in the beginning, which were scattered all over the place, but eventually they become clear, focused and you know what you want, and then one day you discover the ace in your pocket that you never knew you had. One day you discover that your individual talent, your Passion, is completely unique. There is no one else in the world offering what you are offering, or approaching your business how you are approaching it, because no one else is you. When you follow your Passion you are slowly developing a new brand, a new product that has never existed before, for which there is no other competition in the world (think about Steve Job’s passion—let’s build a computer that is also a piece of art—how many people were trying to do that?). You discover that your Passion has the seeds of ultimate Prosperity within it, because the rules of supply and demand, plus individuality, state that you are the only one with the supply.

When this happens all of the failure, self-doubt, and self-loathing you have ever had in your life fades into the background. All of the quirky crap that makes you weird, unique, and sometimes misunderstood has suddenly become the pot at the end of the rainbow. No one else in the world has the potential to achieve your kind of Prosperity, because no one else is you.

Then it all makes sense. Passion doesn’t just work this way for you. It works this way for everyone. If everyone on your team, in your office, in your family and in your friend circle could just seize their Passion for one minute, one day, one year--one lifetime! then imagine how great the world could be. It could be an even more exciting world to live in! We could have 10x the number of original businesses, movies, books, products and services than what we currently have, because each person would be operating at full capacity turning out unique and amazing things.

Now if this excites you, then go out there, embrace your Passion and turn it into your own rippin' heapfuls of personal Prosperity. The rest of us will be ready to enjoy what you produce.
