In Conversation with Rob Acton: The Value of Knowing When You’ve Messed Up

In Conversation with Rob Acton: The Value of Knowing When You’ve Messed Up

A couple weeks ago (with lots of help) Work Your Values went live for the first time, in conversation with Rob Acton, Founder & CEO of Cause Strategy Partners. This series will explore the values we hold, how we live by them, and how we grow.

Individual values are the foundation from which we make our individual decisions. Collective values direct how we define our economy, our justice system, and our civic engagement. We share more values in common than our media portrays.

Rob was the perfect first guest: a friend and mentor who is willing to be honest. Watch the entire LinkedIn Live if you want:

  1. To laugh out loud. (Many moments should have been outtakes… if I had any idea how to make outtakes.)
  2. To hear how someone lives their values — and how they’ve struggled to do so.
  3. To learn what kinds of collective values we can share to build an equitable, multiracial democracy.

Watch it HERE.

In our conversation, Rob named his three top values: loyalty, kindness, and authenticity. Equally important, Rob walked us through the discomfort that arose when he strayed from his value of loyalty in the context of a friendship, and the lesson he learned about how our egos can get in the way of living our values.

In closing, I asked Rob what values he believes we all should share. He said kindness, trying to understand one another, and purpose.

What are your values? And, who should I talk to next month?
