COOL JOBS FOR SENIORS
Almost 1 million Canadians aged 65 and older are still employed full time or part time. This compares to about half that number around the turn of this century. Many jobs for seniors now are much more interesting than 20 years ago.
Some of the reasons seniors still work are to reduce boredom, feel productive, interact with people, and learn new skills. There is also the financial factor where people need to work to make ends meet.
There are jobs like Uber or Lyft driver, bartender, house sitter, child care or senior care provider, dog walker, courier, customer service rep and many others. These are not the jobs that I am thinking of.
Working on a cruise ship might be interesting. Or at a fishing lodge or ski resort.
I’ve always wanted to be a blackjack dealer so working in a casino appeals to me. Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or Reno as well as some of the local casinos would be on my circuit.
What wouldn’t work for me is being a Professional Organizer. I think a neat freak would love tidying homes or offices and getting paid for doing that.
Working in a theatre either at the concession stand, security, or ushering could be fun especially at a rock concert. Movie theatres would also permit you to see the latest films.
There are also conventions and conferences that need speakers especially if you have knowledge in a specific niche. You would get travel and living expenses as well as speaker’s fees. You can check with a speaker’s bureau.
If you are a handy person, you can always grab an orange apron and work at Home Depot. I am sure Lowes and other building supply firms would also be happy to have you part time or full time.
I think there are a few cool jobs that I have missed so don’t hesitate to comment.
