Country's Second Worst Road Surfaces
An independent survey reckons Derbyshire has the second worst road surfaces in the country.
Southend-on-Sea comes first in having the worst roads in England, based on the percentage of A, B, and C roads requiring maintenance, but Derbyshire is runner-up.
The study by car check experts Motorscan analysed data from the Department for Transport, which showed historical road condition statistics for every English local authority.
It found that, in Derbyshire, between 2018 and 2023, 14.7% of A roads were judged to require maintenance on average, and in the same period, 21.2% of B and C were also found to need maintenance.
The local authority for the city of Derby is in fourth place on the list.
Motorscan sourced data on road conditions from the Department for Transport between 2018 and 2023 They then used this to calculate the percentage of roads on average that required maintenance in each local authority. This was then ranked from highest percentage to lowest, to compile the top ten list.
