Courtesy and Leadership

Courtesy and Leadership

The world is in a difficult space on so many fronts. That said, I am no doomsday believer, as I believe in that Star Trek Vision thing. That said, I do recognize that in many arenas of human endeavour... we have so very much work to do. One Consideration for me is the simple, fundamental power of Courtesy.

Thoughts on Courtesy

Courtesy: The Virtue

Consider the Virtue...

The Virtue of Courtesy

Treating others with Kindness and Tact. Taking the time to speak and act with Grace. Making requests over demands. Dale Carnegie spoke and trained around that very notion. Greeting others with warmth and Honor. Showing that others matter. Courtesy humanizes the world amidst the insane busyness, hustle, and grind. Consider its practice.

The Practice of Courtesy

The Alchemy of Courtesy

"Courtesy is the true Alchemy"... such meaning in these words. Imagine its practice at home, school, work, business and community. Alchemy is "a power or process that changes or transforms something in a mysterious or impressive way"... physically changing base metals into gold, for example. Courtesy changes base motives into golden ones, I humbly offer up. Imagine its practice on social media and in public discourse. Imagine its practice in our communications with one another. Imagine it in how we treat each other across nations. Courtesy is a manifestation of daily Justice and, in turn, a builder of peace; the sustainable and sustaining kind. And, damn, we need it.

The Virtue of Tact

Courtesy and Tact and Leadership

Courtesy is not simply about being "polite". With it, we tell and speak the truth assertively but with Kindness. Indeed, a kindly tongue is the "lodestone" of the hearts of others. This stands in the face of the "brutally honest" mantra. Honesty need never be brutal. It just needs to be honest. Indeed, Courtesy is the noble messenger of Honesty. It is noble minded and hearted and is one of the building blocks of a better world and future at home, school, work, business and community... locally, globally and glocally. We are each leaders by us choosing same in a world that desperately needs it. Yesterday, I posted on Gratitude and Leadership. Me thinks today, Courtesy ranks right up there as a Strength of Leadership on the front and top lines and everywhere in between. Consider such and Aim High.
