Are Cover Letters Cancelled?

Cover letters are often seen as a necessary evil by job seekers. They can take hours to write, and it can be difficult to know what to include. New job postings often don't mention whether or not to include a cover letter. So, what's the verdict? Are cover letters still relevant, or are they a thing of the past? Let's take a closer look.

For starters, it's important to remember that a cover letter is just one part of the application process. Your resume, experiences, and skills are all important factors that will be considered by the employer. That being said, a cover letter is still a valuable tool that can help you to stand out from the crowd. In a cover letter, you have an opportunity to introduce yourself and explain why you're the perfect candidate for the job. You can also highlight your most relevant qualifications and show off your writing skills.

 However...

many of the recruiters at Global Service Resources say cover letters are a thing of the past. Times have changed and Cover letters are no longer needed or even looked at by employers. There are several reasons for this change. First, with the advent of online applications, Cover letters have become less common. Second, many employers now prefer to get to know an applicant through their resumes and interviews. Finally, Cover letters can sometimes be generic and provide little insight into an applicant's personality or qualifications. Therefore, it is best to focus on creating a strong resume.

So, does this mean you should never send a cover letter again? Definitely not. But if you’re wondering whether or not it’s worth your time to include one with your job application, the answer is most likely no. Recruiters say that nowadays they rarely pay attention to cover letters, and that including one won’t increase your chances of getting an interview callback. Instead, focus on creating an outstanding resume and LinkedIn profile that really showcases your skills and experience. If you need help crafting a resume or LinkedIn profile that will stand out from the competition, our team at GSR is here to help.
