CRANK's RIDGE | The scenic Trail of Almora, Uttrakhand
A ridge is a long, stretched hilltop, and that’s what Crank Ridge is too. A hidden jewel in the crown of Uttarakhand, It got its name ever since Timothy Leary streaked on the ridge in the 1960s, when it became part of the Hippie trail, during the peak of the hippie movement.
It is considered a place of great spiritual importance since it became a haunt for spiritual seekers in the 1920s and 1930s.
The Hippe Movement started in the western part of the world and led various artists to travel. In their travels, Kasar Devi (Crank’s Ridge) got recognition as a place of great spiritual importance and became a popular spot in India. This reputation is due to the alleged gap in the Van Allen Belt above the ridge, where you get an ultimate peaceful and relaxing experience.
The village of Kasar Devi has now become a cult destination as a part of Crank’s Ridge, spreading over 6 km at the Himalayas’ foothills.
