Creating the Killer Influencer Persona

Creating the Killer Influencer Persona

I was sitting with a TV producer at a studio in the middle of an edit when in walks Yousuf Rajput.

Before you jump to the conclusion that he's the emperor of Hanif Rajput Caterers, he's not.

He's a chef though. Or used to be one. Before he turned his guns onto food styling, a genre which is pretty much vacant in this part of the world.

The fact that he has owned that space in a short span of time has got more to do with the vacancy rather than his own skillset. Not to say that he's not competent. He's very very competent. Just look at the food styling in all those National and Shan and Meezan commercials and you'll appreciate the depth of his talent.

And that's where things get very interesting. In every high performance field, you are taught that the depth of a talent is the differentiating factor between the winner and the loser. Or the sheer hard work put into the practice. Nothing more.

True. But that's not all. Take Yousuf for instance. He was a chef. Turned into a food stylist. Something he couldn't brag enough of. That cum Ramadan season, he won't be able to sleep till Bakra Eid.

If I was him, I would hibernate like the grizzly for the rest of the year, living off the Moolah I earned in the Holy season. Not him.

He has smeared his hands into every pie he could get his hands on to. He's learning about cameras and photography. Intend to open his own production house.

And he's trading cars! Now where did that come from?

Suffice to say, being ultra successful in today's world, not to mention filthy rich, you need both the depth and breadth of an assortment of skills. Unless you're a pop diva.

I once knew a girl who I inspired to become a social media influencer. She did well, initially, breaking the five figure fan barrier easily. But then she hit a plateau. And never really recovered from it. She ran out of content, so instead of penetrating deep, she took the superficial route of posting hubby and chubby and all other animals.

Not a wise move. That's what all other instagrammers do. Only a few break through the glass ceiling. And even those could do much better in terms of money if only they could diversify their reach and audience.

The bulk of the bloggers in Pakistan today are female, instagram afflicted, and confined to lifestyle or makeup. And their earning potential is severely limited. Instead of adding more meat to the content and permeating it into the deep recesses of Web 2.0, they stay in the cozy confines of their fish bowl. Of course they get sponsorships from brands every once in a blue moon. But it's much better to up your chances of earning more right from the outset instead of putting yourself at the mercy of brands.

Here's a much better strategy of getting to the bottom of it all, and permeating yourself jungle ki Aag ki tarah.............

1. PEHLA MISSION

You write.

And write.

And then, write some more.

Pehla Khatam.

2. DOSRA MISSION

Post. Replicate.

On every god damn platform you can think of.

Here's a small tiny list to get you going:

  1. Medium
  2. Quora Space
  3. Tumblr
  4. Patreon
  5. Linkedin Newsletter Feature

But remember. The original manuscript ought to be on your own domain. Don't give up that power. In short you've got at least six places on the internet where your curated content is available full length in all its glory.

3. THEESRA MISSION:

Promote. Flaunt. Brag.

Let it rain down.

Here you exploit those platforms which the female species in this part of the world actually uses for mere content purpose.

Almost all of them you already know:

  1. Instagram
  2. Facebook
  3. Twitter
  4. Snapchat
  5. Tiktok
  6. Pinterest

I'm sure there a dozen more. Make sure every freakin content you write once gets suckled right down to the last drop on each of these babies. They are your pawns. Nurture them judiciously.

And here are a few more tools pertaining to all three phases.
