Curiosity versus Skepticism (AI As Imagined versus AI As Done)
Thank you for all the responses. The majority were curious, and some were skeptical. In the true spirit of HOP, context drives behaviors.
The quality of any tool (AI or non-AI) depends on the body of work from which it has been developed or learned. Our body of work includes HOP Principles, HP and HPI tools, Performance Modes, Just Culture, and the recognized work of Rob Fisher, Fisher Improvement Technologies, in error traps and procedural writing. It also includes our own work in workforce literacy and numeracy
Safety research has shown, with written procedures and documents, that;
A study in process safety in 2018, identified that the typical operating procedure is about 75% accurate (so one step in four is missing or wrong).
Any safety-related information that guides, instructs, or supports people in their work must come from those who do the work. This starts with engaging those who do the work
We use the TEDS model (Tell me, Explain to me, Describe to me, Show me) and the 4Ds (Dumb, Dangerous, Difficult, and Different) to establish context and how the work is performed and flows.
When co-constructing the document/procedure with the workers, we think about;
AI can't do this and/or should not do this. There is a nuisance in how different people perform similar tasks, and this is made visible through engagement and curiosity. No document or procedure can be perfect, but we can always do better.
Our approach to this AI tool is to encourage the curiosity of the writer to go back to the place of work and undertake a verification and assurance activity

If you are curious, send us one of your documents used by the frontline to info@learningteamsinc.com. We will send you back the results, and you can help train our AI tool further with your feedback.
