Day 37 - Why You Should Master Public Speaking - It Impacts Your Life, Career & Business More Than You Think (1,000 Days Content Creation Challenge)
I believe that public speaking is one of the most critical skillsets that you can ever develop because looking back, it has impacted my life tremendously.
And whoever I've coached, for example, they have seen a tremendous growth in their personal, professional, and business lives.
Public speaking has gotten me to speak in 25 countries. It has opened up so many doors for me personally and professionally. My prayer is that by the end of this article you'll be convinced to develop this skill. So, let’s dive into the 8 reasons…
1) Personal branding enhancement
When you're speaking in front of people, you are now exposing your personal brand to a larger number of people. Your brand equity increases. People are seeing you. You're becoming visible. Remember, when you are invisible, then other opportunities will not be visible to you too. And the reverse is true.
2) Career growth accelerator
Again, building upon the first point is, if you're a professional, and then you step in front of people, now all of a sudden you look like a leader. Because remember, when you're in front of people speaking, you're leading their minds. People start envisioning you in leadership positions when you're speaking, unlike when you are in the background.
People who develop this skill set; they grow faster in their career because they look like leaders. It has that halo effect.
3) Business growth booster
Public speaking boosts your sales and marketing. For example, rather than talking or selling to one person, instead you're talking to many people. And that's a huge advantage. You are able to reach out to many prospects or customers at ago. Your business automatically gets more exposure.
4) Confidence and self-esteem Enhancer
When you don't know how to speak or you struggle speaking, then you feel bad about yourself.
When you're able to speak in front of people powerfully and engage them, you feel good about yourself. Your self-concept expands, which is fantastic. Your self-image and confidence increases.
5) You become a more effective mouthpiece for God
You become a more efficient and effective mouthpiece for God’s message whatever that might be. That’s why when Moses complained to God that he could not speak well, Aaron who was a better speaker was appointed as his spokesperson.

Even without public speaking, you are still a mouthpiece for God or you can still be a mouthpiece for God. The difference is, with public speaking mastery you become more effective, which is fantastic.
6) A great example to your children
I recall a coaching client who intimated to me how his father used to fear speaking and he would see him literally sweating.
He explained that one of the reasons he was struggling with public speaking was because he did not have a great example. That he picked the fear unconsciously which got embedded in his psyche.
For me, I was very lucky because my father was an LC (Local Council) 1 chairperson. Even though he had only two years of schooling, he was a gifted speaker. He used to take me along to meetings. This enabled me to watch him speak. Subconsciously, I took it that it was normal for people to speak in public. After all, we live in a world of ‘monkey see, monkey do’
By the way, these days when I'm going to speak, I go along with my children if they're on holidays such that they learn at an unconscious level to be comfortable with speaking.
7) You become an inspiration to other aspiring public speakers.
When aspiring speaker see you speaking, then they say to themselves
“If you can do it, I can do it too”
It's always good to be an inspiration. And I'm sure you would want to be an inspiration.
8) Mass impact
You want to make a positive difference in the world. This is it. This is one of the best tickets in the world. What I mean by that is rather than impacting one person at a time, whether it's one-on-one call, coaching or counseling and all those things are good because I do them, whether it's public speaking or life and career development or oral interview success coaching.
But if I'm talking to one person for one hour, it's one person. But I've had opportunities where I'm speaking to thousands in one go. That’s impacting lives at massive levels. You're able to talk to big groups and impact their lives with just one speech or presentation.
You matter and your message matters. And if your message matters to you, to the world, to God, then better you master public speaking
.Please comment below what your biggest take away is. And if you find this useful for you, please share it with other people. Go forth and master the art of public speaking. God bless.
