The deaths in Omaheke and the purpose of CSI

On Tuesday, 20 August 2024, I listened to a talking head riffing on radio about the 800 malnutrition deaths in Omaheke. My immediate thought was how can CSI be adjusted to save lives. Shock, dismay and anger plus an absolute certainty that those deaths should not have happened. Donations may build community but they can also save lives. Time to rethink CSI to be more responsive to human need.

Thanks to the hashtag#Namibian for bringing it out into the open.

In Namibia, statistically, one out of two children is malnourished. So when I look at my child playing with a friend/s, I count ...1, 2. 1, 2. The unemployment rate is 57%! Yes! People are hungry. Fact - people die from hunger. I agree with Pierre - we need to rethink CSI.
