December Survival Guide: How To Stay On Top Of Your Fitness Mission

December is a month filled with celebrations, family gatherings, and festivities.

But it's also danger season when it comes to you maintain that hard graft you put in with the rest of the year.

It can bring momentum to a screeching halt.

We both know how hard it was to start from scratch, so maintaining momentum is key to saving energy in the new year.

Plus, who wants to be a " New Year, New Me Wanker".

How do we navigate this busy season without sacrificing our health and well-being?

In this newsletter, we'll explore practical tips to help you stay on track with your fitness mission while enjoying all that December has to offer.

Set Realistic Goals for the Month

As we approach the end of the year, it’s essential to set achievable fitness goals.

Instead of aiming for a drastic transformation, focus on maintaining your current fitness level.

For example, commit to exercising at least three times a week or aim for a specific number of steps each day.

With holiday events and gatherings filling your calendar, scheduling your workouts is crucial.

Treat your workout sessions as appointments that you can’t miss.

Block out time in your calendar, whether it’s early in the morning or during lunch breaks.

Tip: Write down your goals and keep them visible as a reminder of your commitment and schedule action steps like workouts, structure is key for us military types!

Make Healthy Choices at Holiday Parties It’s easy to indulge at holiday gatherings, but making mindful choices can help you stay on track.

Before heading to a party, eat a healthy snack to curb your hunger.

When at the event, focus on vegetables, lean proteins, and moderation when it comes to desserts and alcoholic beverages.

This is where eating habits come in to play, such as eating slowly and making sure you have water before as it can help with satiating.

Remember just because it is an "all you can eat buffet" doesn't mean its a challenge!

You don't have to eat all of it!

Tip: Practice the “plate method”—fill half your plate with vegetables, a quarter with protein, and a quarter with carbohydrates.

Prioritize Self-Care and Recovery

Amidst the hustle and bustle, don’t forget to prioritize self-care.

Ensure you’re getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, and taking time to relax.

Recovery is as essential as your workouts for maintaining your fitness levels.

In fact it's something that we all could do with making more time for.

But recovery doesn't mean sitting on your arse drinking beer and not moving.

That will make you feel like worse.

But focusing, whilst you have the time off to have more sleep, reduce stress and focus on the things you know you should be doing, will give you more energy

Tip: Incorporate stretching or yoga into your routine to help with relaxation and flexibility.

I get it....

It's been a crap year and you want to let your hair down a little.

But completely going off the rails for a month will leave you feeling about as motivated to clean a GPMG gas plug after a sustained fire range day!

Staying on track with your fitness mission during the holiday season is not only possible but can also be rewarding.

By setting realistic goals, scheduling workouts, making mindful choices, and prioritizing self-care, you can enjoy December while maintaining your health. Remember, fitness is a journey, and every step counts!
