What OpenAI’s API announcement means for makers

OpenAI has officially made the model that powers ChatGPT (GPT-3.5) and an upgraded version of Whisper available within its API. 

OpenAI says they’ve been listening closely to feedback from developers, and have refined their API terms of service specifically to better meet their needs. Early adopters include Snapchat and Shopify. 

This update provides developers with access to the latest cutting-edge language and speech-to-text capabilities, at reduced costs — owing to a reported 90% reduction in company costs on ChatGPT since December.
